Prime Minister Attends 1st International Conference on Emerging Technologies for Dependable Internet of Things (ICETI 2024)
SANA’A, YEMEN – Prime Minister Ahmed Ghalib Al-Rahwi participated in the inauguration of the 1st International Conference on Emerging Technologies for Dependable Internet of Things (ICETI 2024) at Sana’a University. Hosted by the university’s Faculty of Computer and Information Technology, the conference brings together Yemeni and international researchers to explore advancements in the Internet of Things (IoT) and related fields.
In his opening address, the Prime Minister commended the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, Sana’a University Rector, Yemeni university rectors, as well as the participating academics and research scholars for their contributions to Yemen’s scientific advancement. He emphasized the importance of the conference in fostering intellectual growth and innovation, describing it as crucial for national development. Prime Minister Al-Rahwi contrasted the finite nature of natural resources with the enduring power of human intellect and knowledge, urging a collaborative approach to leverage this potential for progress. He also stressed the importance of dedication and excellence in work, highlighting the collective responsibility to rebuild Yemen after decades of conflict. The Prime Minister lauded the 21st of September Revolution and its leadership for providing a framework for national resurgence, emphasizing the potential of Yemeni minds in science, technology, and management.
Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hassan Al-Saadi, underscored the conference’s relevance in keeping pace with global technological advancements while addressing security concerns. He noted the resilience of Yemeni educational institutions despite facing years of conflict and blockade, highlighting recent recognition of Yemeni medical qualifications across Arab countries. Minister Al-Saadi praised the excellence of Yemeni physicians, emphasizing their cooperative spirit and dedication. He called for prioritizing both security and technological advancement, advocating for scientific progress aligned with ethical and humanitarian values.
During the conference’s inaugural session which was attended by Prof. Hatem Al-Dois the Vice Minister of Education and Dr. Omer Al-Bukhaiti, Vice Minister of Information, Sana’a University Rector, Al-Kasem Mohammed Abass, highlighted the importance of the conference’s international collaboration, particularly with the University of Offenbach (Germany) and Al-Nahrain University (Iraq). He stressed the vital role of scientific research in addressing technical challenges and emphasized the need to harness the talent of Yemeni researchers both at home and abroad. The Rector, Prof. Abass, pledged the University’s full support for innovative projects carried out by the University research scholars.
Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology, Ahmed Al-Shalabi, outlined the conference’s objectives, including promoting research, addressing challenges related to emerging technologies, and raising awareness of their importance. Dr. Sharaf Al-Humdi, Head of the Conference Scientific Committee, highlighted the significance of international partnerships in keeping pace with advancements in communications and information technology, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of IoT.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by the Minister of Education and other officials, also inaugurated an exhibition showcasing research posters and projects and toured the newly established computer labs at the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology. The launch of a series of documentaries highlighting Sana’a University’s resources also took place during the event. The two-day conference features 331 participants from Yemen and 28 other countries, presenting 81 research papers across six key areas related to IoT, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and advanced communications networks.
