Closing Ceremony of Student Activities and Honoring Champions of University Competitions at Sana’a University

Under the patronage of the University’s Rector, Prof. Al-Kasem Mohammed Abbas, the General Administration of Student Activities and the University Student Forum organized a ceremony to celebrate the champions of Sana’a University Football League for the academic year 1445 AH (2024-2025). The event also honored outstanding participants in sports, cultural, and scientific activities across various faculties.
In his speech, the University’s Vice-rector, Prof. Mohammed Shokri, commended the diverse range of activities held in the fields of sports, culture, and science. He expressed his hope for a broader and more varied lineup of activities in the coming year, emphasizing their crucial role in complementing academic education.
Prof. Shokri underscored the importance of fostering future generations based on the core values and principles of the Yemeni people, stating that a nation’s strength lies in the integrity of its values and beliefs.
In his speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Saad Ibrahim Al-Alawi, highlighted the university’s dedication to extracurricular activities, stressing their role in enhancing academic experience. He affirmed that this vision aligns with the “A Hand to Build, A Hand to Protect” initiative, which has become a motto and a guiding principle for all.
The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Dr. Hani Al-Mughalis, the University’s Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs, Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, the General Director of the General Administration of Student Activities, Mr. Abdulqader Al-Ghurbani, as well as several university officials and representatives of the University Student Forum.
During the ceremony, outstanding students in various activities were awarded commemorative shields, while top-ranking champions received trophies, medals, and commemorative shields. The football team of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics was crowned as league champion and awarded gold medals and the university trophy. The team of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences secured silver medals, while the team of the Faculty of Engineering claimed third place with bronze medals. Additionally, the Faculty of Commerce team was awarded the Excellence Shield in Sports.
The ceremony also celebrated Sana’a University representatives who excelled in the Yemeni Universities Championships for the academic year 1445 AH (2024-2025). Honorees included Sami Al-Ziyadi, Supervisor of the University Teams, Dr. Issam Al-Marwa’i, Athletics Team Coach, and Ali Sudais, Athletics Team Administrator. In addition, top-ranked athletes were honored for their achievements, including Saddam Wais, who scored first place in the university badminton championship; Basheer Al-Mahaqiri who secured second place in the university table tennis championship; Ahmed Ja’man who achieved third place in the university badminton championship; Hamzah Al-Dhaifi, first place in the 1500-meter race, Fakhr Al-Din Muqbil, second place in the 800-meter race, Naif Al-Dhaifi, second place in the 200-meter race, Abdulaziz Al-Maswari; second place in javelin throw; Abdullah Al-Ahdal, second place in the long jump; Basim Hadian, third place in the 1500-meter race; Fakhr Al-Din Muqbil, third place in the 400-meter race; Hamzah Surur, third place in the long jump; Abdulaziz Al-Maswarri, second place in shot-putting, and Amjad Ziyad (Faculty of Commerce) with the title of the Best Goalkeeper in the Yemeni Universities Championship.
The ceremony also honored tournament referees, faculty supervisors, vice deans, youth leaders, leaders of the University Student Forum, and all who contributed to the success of student activities during the current academic year. The event also recognized outstanding participants in scientific and cultural competitions.
