Sana’a University Receives Academic and Institutional Accreditation from CAQA, Nursing and Laboratory Programs Excluded

The Council for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA) has granted Full National Institutional Accreditation to ten faculties at Sana’a University, along with Full Programmatic Accreditation for four academic programs.
This announcement was made during an event in Sana’a that marked the launch of the national institutional academic accreditation for the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Commerce & Economics, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Faculty of Languages, Faculty of Mass Communication, and Faculty of Agriculture. The event also celebrated the programmatic accreditation of the Faculty of Physical Education, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Faculty of Sharia and Law programs.
The University has previously obtained the Gold Academic Accreditation for the General Surgery program at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Gold Academic Accreditation for the Oral and Dental Surgery program at the Faculty of Dentistry. Thus, Sana’a University has obtained Full Academic Accreditation for all its academic programs, between diamond and gold ranks, except for the Laboratory and Nursing programs at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
During the event, His Excellency Prof. Abdulaziz Bin Habtoor, a member of the Supreme Political Council, highlighted the importance of this event to make wide publicity for the achievements of the University’s faculties and their academic initiatives. He described the occasion as a milestone for Sana’a University and its entire academic and administrative staff, noting that this accreditation serves as a strong response to past and future critiques of academic progress at Sana’a University and other academic institutions in Yemen.
Prof. Bin Habtoor congratulated the University’s members on receiving this prestigious recognition, praising the CAQA for its professionalism and neutrality. He emphasized Sana’a University’s pioneering role since its inception in 1970 in contributing to human development in Yemen and supporting the establishment of other universities.
Expressing his pride, Prof. Bin Habtoor added, “Sana’a University has maintained a strong presence at the national, regional, and international levels, consistently leading and managing academic operations throughout Yemen.” He also commended the University’s contribution to social cohesion through its educational efforts and expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, the Vice-Minister, the Rector of Sana’a University, and the Chairman of the CAQA for achieving this accreditation.
His Excellency Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hassan Al-Saadi, also celebrated this accomplishment, highlighting its significance during the holy month of Ramadan and within a broader context of Yemen’s success, victory, and empowerment. He expressed pride in Sana’a University’s regional and national recognition, acknowledging its role in producing leaders and experts now serving in high positions across the country.
Mr. Al-Saadi encouraged other public and private universities to follow Sana’a University’s steps by preparing for institutional and programmatic accreditation. He acknowledged the University’s resilience and the efforts of its academic and administrative teams in reaching this achievement despite challenging circumstances.
During the event, attended by the Vice-Minister of Information, Dr. Omar Al-Bukhayti, and the Vice-Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Hatim Al-Dois, Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Al-Kasem Abbas, expressed gratitude to the University leaders, deans, vice-deans, department heads, quality assurance managers, faculty general secretaries, and teaching staff for their dedicated work that led to achieving full national institutional and programmatic accreditation. He emphasized that “achieving quality is a collective effort” and reviewed the stages the University went through in implementing the project and the challenges it faced.
He also expressed pride in achieving this accomplishment, reflecting years of dedicated work following academic standards, and highlighted the University’s strong infrastructure and the efforts of the University’s teaching staff in completing the specification of 400 academic programs, encompassing 8,000 courses, all aligned with the CAQA’s framework.
Prof. Al-Kasem Abbas mentioned that Sana’a University has modernized its outputs, programs, courses, and infrastructure, taking significant strides in postgraduate studies, introducing 230 MA and PhD programs, which have significantly enhanced the University’s international rankings and surpassing many international universities with far larger budgets. He also mentioned the accreditation of the newly opened Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Petroleum as a boost to development and construction efforts.
With the presence of Prof. Ibrahim Luqman, the Ministry of Education’s Undersecretary for Higher Education Sector, the Chairman of the CAQA, Prof. Ahmed Al-Haboob, congratulated Sana’a University for earning this accreditation and encouraged other universities to follow the steady steps of this pioneering accreditation movement, considering higher education a strategic and developmental priority.
Prof. Al-Haboub noted the efforts of the University’s leadership, the CAQA, as well as the external experts and reviewers whose competence and expertise helped achieve this milestone efficiently.
During the ceremony, attended by university leaders, members of the CAQA, deans of the faculties, the Executive Director of the Information Technology Center, Prof. Fouad Abdul Razzaq, and the Dean of the CAQA at Sana’a University, Prof. Huda Al-Imad, the General-Secretary of the CAQA, Prof. Mohammed Dhaifallah, presented the accreditation procedures, stages, and outcomes for Sana’a University’s institutional and programmatic accreditation.
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of certificates of national institutional and programmatic accreditation to the deans of the accredited faculties.
