Public MA Viva-Voice Examination of Ms.Abdulghani Ali Gubran AL-BASMI

Today, Monday, Jumad-Thani 10th 1446H, December 11th, 2024, the candidate researcher/
Abdulghani Ali Gubran AL-BASMI
Obtained the Master degree with an Excellent average in the major of Clinical Orthodontics from the Department of Orthodontics, Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Sanaa University,
For her Master’s thesis entitled:
Evaluation of Bone Thickness for Placement of Min-Implant Assisted
Rapid Palatal Expansion: A Cone Beam Computed Tomography Study
The examining committee consisted of:
- Professor Dr. Ghamdan Abdallah Ahmed AL-HARAZI, Principle Supervisor
Committee Member,
- Associate Professor Naela Mohammed Ali AL-MUJAHED, Internal Examiner
Committee member, and
- Professor Dr. Yasser Ali Ahmed Thabet, External Examiner
Head of Committee.
The study aims at evaluating the thickness of palatal bone, palatal bone density, and the thickness of palatal soft tissue; for this, the study uses the cone beam computed tomography to identify optimal sites for mini implant placement and to examine their relationships with palatal depth angle.
The study comes out with some results as follows: Thickness of Palatal Bone is generally decreased from the anterior to the posterior regions. Males exhibit greater bone thickness than females, particularly in the anterior and middle regions. Palatal Bone Density is gradually decreasing posteriorly. The study finds no significant gender differences in PBD, except in the middle region where females show higher bone density than males. The study also finds no significant gender differences across all regions as for Thickness Palatal Soft, generally thicker laterally than medially. Significant correlations are seen especially in the anterior and middle regions.
The researcher presents a number of recommendations at the end of this Master’s thesis, of which: Both thickness and density are critical factors in determining the success of mini-implant assisted rapid palatal expansion placement. There is a need for a demographic sample enlargement (ethnically and group age) as for improving result generalization. Personalized treatment planning is essential. Long-term studies are in need as for the follow of change in the thick palatal bone and palatal bone density based on refined measurement techniques for more understanding.
Attendees of the viva session were a number of academics, researchers, students of the major, the researcher’s colleagues and some of family members.
