Master’s Degree for Researcher Rehab Abdo Abdulaziz from the Inclusive Research Development Center (IRDC)

Researcher Rehab Abdo Abdulaziz Al-Dhubhani earned a Master’s degree with honors in International Development Studies from the Inclusive Research Development Center at Sana’a University, for her thesis titled “The Role of the Caricature Art in Expressing Poverty Issues from the Yemeni Social Reality”. The Viva took place on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
The discussion and evaluation committee consisted of:
* Assistant Professor Dr. Mutahar Ali Oqaida, internal examiner and committee chair.
* Assistant Professor Dr. Munir Al-Humairi, internal examiner and member.
* Professor Dr. Saleh Mohammed Hamid, co-supervisor and member.
The study aimed to determine the role of caricature art in expressing poverty issues in the Yemeni social reality.
The thesis revealed several key findings, including: discussing poverty from various aspects, highlighting patterns related to Yemeni cultural and popular heritage. The head of the family was used as a prominent model, representing both the most vulnerable group and a social representation of all impoverished Yemenis. The economic indicator was the most frequently discussed factor that embodied the deterioration of living conditions at all levels.
The researcher suggested several recommendations, most notably:
* conducting semiotic studies on caricature art regarding humanitarian, social, or political issues to serve as a reference for those interested in studying the field of arts.
* Enhancing the use of caricatures as a means to stimulate dialogue and discussion about societal issues, to be resolved by the relevant authorities.
* Encouraging cooperation between caricature artists and media outlets to widely publish their works, as these partnerships can increase the impact of caricatures and reach a larger audience.
The discussion was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, and interested individuals, as well as several of the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
