Researcher Mohammed Nasser Hazam Dahesh has been awarded a Doctorate degree in the Physics Department, specializing in (Solar Energy Physics), from the Faculty of (Science) at Sana’a University for his thesis titled: “Study of Photovoltaic (Solar) Panels Degradation under the Temperate and Humid Climatic Conditions of the Republic of Yemen”. The Viva defence took place on Wednesday, 27th of Sha’ban, 1446 AH, corresponding to February 26th, 2025 AD.
The discussion and evaluation committee consisted of:
* Professor Mahmoud Ahmed Al-Doais, an internal examiner and head of the committee.
* Associate Professor Mohammed Qassem Al-Mutawakel, supervisor and committee member.
* Associate Professor Mohammed Ali Saif, an external examiner and committee member.
The thesis aimed to determine the impact of various climatic conditions (temperate and humid) in the Republic of Yemen on the performance degradation of solar panels.
The study revealed several conclusions, including that the power degradation of solar panels is primarily due to a decrease in short-circuit current, indicating that solar panels are affected by visual degradation patterns.
In his study, the researcher suggested several recommendations, including that the possibility of reprocessing the encapsulation material used in the old (Arco Solar) solar panel samples could contribute to the manufacturing of solar panels with a lifespan of up to 40 years.
The discussion was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, interested individuals, as well as the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
