The Graduate Studies Council Holds Its 10th Meeting for the 2024/2025 Academic Year

On Monday, April 21, 2025 (23 Shawwal 1446 AH), the Council for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at Sana’a University held its 10th regular meeting for the academic year 1446 AH (2024/2025). The session was chaired by Prof. Huda Ali Al-Imad, Assistant Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, with the participation of faculty vice-deans for graduate studies and scientific research, as well as representatives from academic and research centers.
The meeting discussed the extension and termination of scholarship terms for several sponsored students, reviewing the thesis/dissertation eligibility report form, assessment reports submitted by viva voce committee members (thesis evaluation), and examining a memorandum from the Academic Development & Quality Assurance Center (ADQAC) proposing updates to the PhD program and renaming the former program at the Inclusive Development Center (formerly Gender and Development Center) to Studies in International Development (offered in both Arabic and English).
The council also considered a memorandum from the Center for Educational and Psychological Counseling regarding the process of launching a PhD program in Psychology. Moreover, it reviewed the academic plan for the Level Improvement Diploma Program in the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering.
Further discussions addressed the introduction of the Level Improvement Diploma Program in the Departments of Electrical and Mechatronics Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and the approval of tuition fees for the PhD program in the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Commerce and Economics.
The council approved titles for ten PhD dissertations and 27 MA theses spanning a range of disciplines within university faculties and research centers. It also approved the registration of 226 PhD dissertations submitted to the Business Administration Center from 2022 to February 2025, in line with a previously signed agreement between the center and the Office of the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research. Amendments to the titles of several PhD dissertations and MA theses were also approved.
In addition, the council approved the formation of viva voce committees for 22 dissertations at the Business Administration Center for the period from 2022 to February 2025, based on the agreement signed between the center and the Office of the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.
The meeting approved the viva-voce evaluation results of 33 MA theses and PhD dissertations from various faculties and research centers. It also accepted academic results for students enrolled in different programs, including diplomas, level improvement courses, and Pre-MA coursework programs.
Moreover, the council granted a number of internal scholarships to teaching assistants and lecturers across various disciplines to pursue MA and PhD degrees, as well as endorsed collaborative scholarship programs among public universities.
The session began with the review and approval of the minutes of the council’s previous meeting.
