Thursday, Ramadan 24th, 1446H, March 24th, 2025, the candidate researcher/
Adel Saleh Ali SULAIMAN
Obtained the Master degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with an Excellent average, from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Sanaa University, for her Master’s thesis entitled:
Effects of Low-level Laser in the Treatment of Myofascial Pain Dysfunction Temporomandibular joint in a sample of Yemeni patients
The examining committee consisted of:
♦ Professor Dr. Alqassem Mohammed ABBAS, Principle Supervisor Committee Member,
♦ Associate Professor Taghrid AL-KEBSI, Internal Examiner Committee Member, and
♦ Associate Professor Nashwan AL-TAIRI, External Examiner Head of Committee.
This Master’s thesis aims at testing low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in reducing pain, increasing function, and improving range of motion and ability to perform daily activities in patients with MPS.
The study comes out with some results: The mean pain severity, measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), significantly decreases from 7.5 (1.3 SD) in first Week and progressively reducing to 3.8 (1.0 SD) in six Week, indicating substantial pain reduction over the treatment period. The majority of patients show significant improvement, with 95% of participants experiencing a reduction in pain severity.
The researcher presents a number of recommendations at the end of this study: Low-Level Laser Therapy as an appropriate and non-invasive therapeutic approach for MPD shows effectiveness and can be helpful as a treatment for MP. LLLT is regarded as a preferred therapeutic option due to its short-term bio stimulatory, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative benefits. LLLT shows minimal adverse effects and exhibit favorable patient acceptability. Further investigation with 3-month follow-up is yet in need.
Attendees of the viva session were a number of academics, researchers, interested students of the major, as well as the researcher’s colleagues and some of family members.
