Sana’a University Rector Reviews the Performance of the Cardiac Catheterization Center at Kuwait University Hospital

Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, the Rector of Sana’a University and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cardiac Catheterization Center at Kuwait University Hospital, which is affiliated with Sana’a University, conducted a review of the center’s performance and the quality of cardiac care and treatment services offered to citizens across different segments of society.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti, accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ibrahim Al-Mutaa’, the Director of Kuwait University Hospital, Dr. Abdulatif Abu Taleb, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, was briefed on the facilities of the newly established Cardiac Catheterization Department and the latest equipment recently supplied, including the most advanced cardiac catheterization device in Yemen—the latest model from the global company Philips—in preparation for its inauguration next week.
The university rector and his accompanying delegation also visited the cardiac care units, inpatient wards, the echocardiography unit, and the emergency cardiac unit. They reviewed the equipment of the cardiac surgery and pediatric cardiac surgery departments, both of which are currently being outfitted with the latest medical technologies and are scheduled to open within the next two months.
They were briefed by Dr. Salah Al-Shawki, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Center, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Houthi, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, on the nature of the medical and treatment services provided by the center, as well as the progress of preparations in the cardiac catheterization department.
Dr. Al-Shawki and Dr. Al-Houthi provided an overview of the capacities of the cardiac intensive care unit, which can accommodate 52 beds, and the echocardiography unit, which is equipped with five devices capable of receiving a large number of patients daily. Both units are operated by a distinguished group of cardiology consultants in Yemen.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti and his accompanying delegation were also briefed on the progress of the training within the Egyptian Cardiology Fellowship Program, the sole accredited program of its kind in Yemen. This program accommodates two batches of 30 physicians from various governorates, all under the supervision of an elite group of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons. Furthermore, they inspected the pediatric care, inpatient, and surgery departments; the progress of equipment installations; the requirements needed to complete the oxygen network supply; and the equipment requirements for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.
During the visit, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti praised the leadership of the Cardiac Center and its medical staff for their humanitarian efforts in alleviating the suffering of patients who cannot afford the costs of treatment or travel abroad.
He considered the Cardiac Catheterization Center at Kuwait University Hospital a beacon of hope for advancing cardiac medicine and surgery services in Yemen. He stated that the center is capable of competing and excelling at both the local and regional levels due to its administration, staff, and students. He affirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening the center’s role to match the strength and distinction of the Faculty of Medicine’s graduates.
He emphasized the importance of focusing on quality in practical, professional, and research training to ensure the graduation of skilled physicians and surgeons. He stressed the need for collective efforts and teamwork to maintain, enhance, and develop the Cardiac Catheterization Center to keep pace with advancements taking place in the medical field worldwide.
During the visit, the university rector met with students enrolled in the Egyptian Fellowship in Cardiology. He commended the center for providing this training opportunity within Yemen, sparing trainees the burden of traveling to Egypt and facilitating access, particularly for female physicians, to pursue specialized training with ease.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti emphasized that Yemen needs dozens of specialized cardiac centers. He stressed the importance of fostering competition for excellence in service delivery, opening opportunities for collaboration with the Cardiac Center at Al-Thawra Hospital to organize seminars, workshops, and joint catheterization procedures via Zoom.
He was accompanied during the visit by Prof. Zaid Al-Wareeth, Assistant Rector for Centers Affairs; Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, Assistant Rector for Media Affairs; along with a number of officials and heads of departments from the Cardiac Catheterization Center and Kuwait University Hospital.
