Master’s Degree to Researcher Amani Obaid from the Statistics Department, Faculty of Commerce and Economics

Researcher Amani Abdullah Yahya Obaid has been awarded a Master’s degree in Statistics and Information with an overall grade of (Excellent) at a percentage of (95%) from the Faculty of Commerce and Economics at Sana’a University for her thesis entitled “Using Data Mining Techniques in Educational Data to Evaluate the Performance of Students at the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, Sana’a University”.
The Viva committee consisted of:
* Prof. Munir Abdullah Saeed Hazza’a- External examiner and Chairperson, Dhamar University.
* Associate Prof. Fouad Abdo Almekhlafi Sana’a University – Internal examiner.
* Dr. Abdulmalik Abdullah Alawlaqi, Sana’a University- Supervisor.

The study aimed to:
* analyze educational patterns using educational data mining techniques to discover patterns, use the Apriori algorithm to extract knowledge that contributes to the process of evaluating student performance at the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, Sana’a University
* to produce results that help in evaluating student performance in the faculty, and develop recommendations that help in improving the educational process using Apriori algorithms to discover educational patterns.
The study revealed a number of findings, through which prevailing patterns were discovered in the Accounting Department, the Business Administration Department, the Marketing Division, the Economics and Finance Department, the Financial and Banking Studies Division, and the Political Studies Department.
The study came out with several recommendations, the most prominent of which were:
* working on changing the policy for determining the choice of specialization for students of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, to work on encouraging and funding scientific research in the field of educational data mining.
* working on storing data in a good manner so that it is readily available.
The Viva defence was attended by a number of academics and their assistants, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Hani Almughales, the former Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Mesha’al Alrifi, and a number of the researcher’s colleagues, friends, and family.
