Sana’a – Wednesday, May 14, 2025
Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, the Rector of Sana’a University, chaired today an expanded meeting with the members of the Academic Integrity Committees across the university’s colleges and centers.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Huda Al-Emad, Assistant Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research; Dr. Hesham Al-Jabali, Director General of Scientific Research; and Prof. Abdu Ahmed Al-Kelli, General Supervisor of the university’s academic journals.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti reaffirmed the university’s commitment to enhancing the role of the academic integrity committees in advancing academic and research excellence, particularly in the domain of postgraduate studies.
He praised the pivotal role these committees play in fostering a culture of rigorous academic research, improving the quality of knowledge production, and reinforcing the university’s regional and international reputation as a leading academic and research institution.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti stressed that the responsibilities assigned to these committees—mandated by the University Council—go beyond evaluating research and supervising theses. They also involve monitoring the legal duration of postgraduate programs (master’s and doctoral), ensuring equitable distribution of academic supervision among faculty members, and upholding the quality of supervision processes.
He called on faculty members to adhere strictly to the university’s postgraduate regulations and uphold the highest standards of academic integrity. He also emphasized the need for postgraduate supervisors to remain connected to societal needs and national development priorities, thereby ensuring the production of impactful and relevant research.
The University Rector also highlighted the efforts of the University’s Center for Science and Technology and the formulation of annual research plans in several faculties. He urged academic departments to develop realistic research agendas aligned with university priorities and national development goals.
During the meeting, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti further announced the university’s plan to automate the entire postgraduate system. This initiative aims to streamline admission procedures, the formation of supervising committees, and the final approval of master’s and doctoral degrees.
He also unveiled a plan to establish advanced research halls equipped with modern computers and provide free access to international academic databases, creating a comprehensive and stimulating research environment.
Moreover, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti instructed the formation of a university-wide faculty committee to oversee the implementation of the new research hall facilities. He also assigned the Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research Sector to develop a framework for improving coordination and integration between the Academic Integrity Committees and academic departments to further strengthen the university’s research and academic system.
