Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Ammar Qasim Hasan Al-Muntasir in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Sana’a, Yemen – May 11, 2025 – Mr. Ammar Qasim Hasan Al-Muntasir from the Faculty of Dentistry at Sana’a University has been awarded a Master of Science degree with an overall grade of (Excellent) in the major of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His thesis, titled “The Effect of Low-Level Laser Therapy in the Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Disc Displacement with Occlusal Splint,” was successfully defended on Thursday, Dhu al-Qa’dah 10, 1446 Hijri, corresponding to May 8, 2025.
The Viva-voce committee comprised:
- Supervisor and Chair: Assoc. Prof. Taghreed Ahmed Al-Kebsi
- Internal Examiner: Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ashwal
- External Examiner and Committee Chair: Assoc. Prof. Nashwan Saleh Al-Tairi
The thesis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy in treating temporomandibular joint disc displacement when used in conjunction with an occlusal splint.
Key findings of the thesis include that low-level laser therapy, a non-surgical treatment modality, yields effective results in a short time. The study demonstrated its superiority in reducing the signs and symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders through the combined application of low-level laser therapy and an occlusal splint.
In his recommendations, Mr. Al-Muntasir emphasized the need for long-term follow-up studies extending beyond three months to further ascertain the efficacy of low-level laser therapy in treating temporomandibular joint disc displacement with occlusal splints.
The defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, and interested individuals, as well as the candidate’s colleagues and family members.
