Ms. Maha Saleh Mahdi Al-Muntasir was awarded a Master of Science degree from the Faculty of Dentistry at Sana’a University with an overall grade of (Excellent) and an average of (95%) in the major of Orthodontics. Her thesis, titled “Evaluation of Force Degradation in Both Clear and Colored Orthodontic Elastic Chains Intraorally: A Randomized Clinical Study,” was rigorously examined by a distinguished committee.
The Viva-voce committee comprised the following members:
- Supervisor and Chair: Assoc. Prof. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Labani
- Internal Examiner: Dr. Rami Abdulrahman Ishaq
- External Examiner and Committee Chair: Assoc. Prof. Khaled Ahmed Al-Dhar’i
The thesis aimed to evaluate the force degradation in both clear and colored orthodontic elastic chains used in orthodontic treatment.
The thesis yielded several key findings, including:
- A significant force degradation in the elastic chains within the first 24 hours, ranging from 27.32% to 39.68% of the initial force upon placement.
- The addition of color significantly influences force degradation, with the rate of degradation varying depending on the color.
The thesis also assessed various risk factors, with chewing demonstrating a significant correlation with force degradation in colored orthodontic elastic chains in the later stages.
The researcher presented several recommendations, including the necessity of understanding the behavior of orthodontic chains and the impact of colors on orthodontic treatment outcomes.
The defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, and interested individuals, as well as the candidate’s colleagues and family members.
