PM Inaugurates Cardiac Catheterization Unit & Renal Dialysis Department at Sana’a University’s Cardiac Center

Today, Sana’a University marked a significant leap forward in medical care by inaugurating a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization unit and a new renal dialysis department at the Cardiac Center of Kuwait University Hospital. His Excellency, the Prime Minister, Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahawi, highlighted the continuous advancements at the university’s medical facilities.
The new Cardiac Catheterization Unit boasts the most advanced equipment in Yemen, representing a total investment of YER 300 million. Complementing this, the newly established Renal Dialysis Department, specifically for heart patients, was completed at a cost of YER 60 million. Both units are set to enhance diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients in Yemen.
Prime Minister Al-Rahawi, accompanied by Minister of Health and Environment Dr. Ali Shaiban, Vice Minister of Education and Scientific Research Dr. Hatem Al-Doais, and Sana’a University Rector & Chairman of the Cardiac Center’s Board of Directors, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, toured the facilities. They were briefed by the Cardia Center Director, Dr. Salah Al-Showki, on the ongoing development and the operational procedures of the new units, especially the Cardiac Catheterization Unit.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Al-Rahawi commended the center’s consistent progress since its inception. He noted a marked improvement since his previous visit, attributing the advancements to the collaborative efforts of all involved parties.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the students undertaking the Egyptian Fellowship Program at the center, particularly the female students who now have the opportunity to pursue their fellowship locally, instead of travelling to study abroad. He expressed his vision for the center to evolve into a regional hub for cardiac and renal care, driven by the sustained efforts of all stakeholders.
Al-Rahawi affirmed the Government’s unwavering support for the center, which has proven its capability to foster growth and deliver tangible benefits to the community. He conveyed his wishes for the center’s continued development in its healthcare and educational endeavors, and the success of its board-certified students.
Minister of Health and Environment, Dr. Ali Shaiban, underscored the center’s notable progress and stressed the need for enhancing cooperation and integrated efforts among the University, the Ministry of Health, the Cardiac Center, and Kuwait Hospital. This collaboration, he noted, is crucial for leveraging collective expertise and achieving desired successes in improving patient care, particularly in cardiac catheterization and renal dialysis. Dr. Shaiban also affirmed the Ministry of Health’s readiness to provide renal dialysis sessions to renal failure patients and stressed the need for expanding the services of the Renal Dialysis Department to serve all patients in the future.
Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, described the opening of the new units as a motivational drive to push forward the development and equipping of the Heart Center and Kuwait University Hospital. He emphasized that the Cardiac Center represents a beacon of hope for elevating cardiac medicine and surgery services in Yemen, fostering positive competition for excellence both locally and regionally. He added that through its administration, staff, and students, the center strives to become a powerhouse that parallels the output of Sana’a University’s Faculty of Medicine.
The inauguration was attended by the University Rectors’ Assistant for Centers Affairs, Prof. Zaid Al-Warith, the Rectors’ Assistant for Media Affairs, Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, the Director of Kuwait University Hospital, Dr. Abdul Latif Abu Talib, Deputy Director of the Cardiac Center Dr. Mohammed Al-Houthi, and other senior officials and staff from the Cardiac Center and Kuwait Hospital.
