International Accreditation for the Faculty of Medicine: A Strategic Priority Requiring Collective Commitment

In a clear demonstration of Sana’a University’s dedication to enhancing medical education in line with international standards, University Rector Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti has called for the full mobilization of resources and efforts to meet the criteria for international accreditation of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). He described this milestone as a transformative step that reflects the university’s distinguished legacy and prestigious reputation.
This was issued during a meeting held at the university’s headquarters in the Capital Secretariat, Sana’a, with the administration of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, including Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, Dean of the Faculty. The meeting was also attended by the University’s Committee for Documentary Film Production, with the participation of Dr. Omar Daer, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication; Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, the Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs; and Prof. Huda Al-Emad, Director of the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center.
During the meeting, the University Rector stressed the importance of international accreditation, citing its pivotal role in elevating the quality of medical education, securing international recognition for graduates, and expanding their career prospects both regionally and internationally.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti affirmed that the Faculty of Medicine possesses the expertise and infrastructure necessary to attain this prestigious accreditation. He urged the faculty to expedite the completion of essential documentation and guides, compile all required data, and enhance the educational and training environment to align with international quality standards.
He also instructed the Documentary Film Production Committee to begin creating an introductory film showcasing the Faculty of Medicine. He commended the essential role of university media in highlighting academic achievements and capabilities and urged the faculty’s full cooperation with the film production team to ensure a high-quality film that accurately represents the faculty’s true and honorable image.
Prof. Al-Shahari, Dean of the Faculty, stressed the faculty’s commitment to this initiative and confirmed that every effort is being made to meet all the requirements of accreditation.
Prof. Daer, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, noted that specialized teams have already commenced planning and scripting the documentary in structured phases and with quality, marking the beginning of a broader project aimed at producing a series of documentaries covering the university’s faculties and centers.
It is worth noting that obtaining international accreditation represents a key strategic milestone in advancing higher education in Yemen. Achieving this goal requires collaborative effort across all levels of university leadership, faculties, centers, and departments alike. It is not merely an external validation but a reflection of internal dedication to quality education and a commitment to delivering a learning experience that fulfills student aspirations while bolstering the university’s regional and international standing.
This initiative signals a defining moment in the history of Sana’a University, anchored in excellence and a forward-looking vision of international engagement. Reaching this national objective depends on teamwork, determination, and a shared understanding of the critical importance of this phase.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Iskandar Al-Maqaleh, General Secretary of the University, along with several heads of departments and specialists from the university administration and the Faculty of Medicine.
