Ministry of Education & Scientific Research Reviews Sana’a University’s Annual Progress Report

The Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, headed by Prof. Ibrahim Luqman, Deputy Minister for the Higher Education Sector, held a meeting today to review the Annual Progress Report of Sana’a University for the academic year 1446 AH / 2024–2025.
The meeting brought together the Ministry’s Monitoring Committee and the team responsible for preparing the report at the university. Rector of Sana’a University, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, opened the session by outlining the report’s main components, which covered strategic planning, governance, academic teaching and learning, digital transformation, faculty and staff, student statistics and activities, fields of improvement and quality assurance, graduate studies, scientific research, human resources, financial management, projects, community services, and assessments of risks and opportunities.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti highlighted the university’s notable progress, describing it as “a cornerstone of development in Yemen.” He emphasized that Sana’a University has been instrumental in shaping leaders across all fields, and the educational and developmental progress we witnessed in Yemen is largely due to the contributions of Sana’a University, Yemen’s leading academic institution.
He further announced that the university is nearing international accreditation from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) for its General Medicine and Surgery program at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. This achievement follows its recent recognition with both institutional and programmatic national accreditation, a leap that made it the first Yemeni university to attain such status last year.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti also affirmed the university’s readiness to act as a national think tank, offering expertise to support governmental planning and sectoral development. He also expressed a strong commitment to expanding collaboration and partnerships with public institutions to drive the country’s progress.
He reviewed several recent accomplishments, including the launch of the Cardiac and Catheterization Center at Al-Kuwait University Hospital, which is the first of its kind nationally. The facility includes state-of-the-art equipment, a dialysis unit, and an expanded capacity of 100 beds. He also mentioned the implementation of solar energy projects with a total output of 600 kilowatts and the establishment of an automated examination center equipped with 1,700 computers, soon to increase to 2,000, positioning it as the largest in the country.
During the meeting, the Ministry’s Monitoring Committee and the heads of the annual report key issues from various universities reviewed the mechanisms for presenting performance reports, ensuring alignment with approved performance indicators, and provided their feedback on the university’s report.
The committee commended the university’s efforts, noting the clarity, transparency, and comprehensive nature of the report, which effectively showcased the university’s activities and progress.
Prof. Ibrahim Luqman, Deputy Minister for the Higher Education Sector, praised the report presentation, noting that “Sana’a University is the mother of Yemeni universities with its distinguished academic standing, qualified staff, and robust infrastructure, all of which secure its leading position nationally and make it a strong regional contender.”
He stressed the significance of such reports in guiding national policymakers and supporting informed decision-making that contributes to the country’s development goals.
At the close of the meeting, which was attended by Prof. Zaid Ali Al-Wareeth, the Rector’s Assistant for Scientific and Research Centers Affairs; Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, the Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs; and Prof. Huda Al-Emad, the Vice-Rector’s Assistant for Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti expressed his appreciation for the constructive comments and insights provided. He pledged to integrate them in future efforts and reaffirmed the university’s ongoing support for the Ministry, committing to enhanced cooperation in line with existing regulations to address shortcomings and build on successes.
Moreover, the meeting was attended by Mr. Iskandar Al-Maqaleh, General Secretary of the University; Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; Prof. Omar Daer, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication; Prof. Mohammed Qusaila, Dean of the Faculty of Science; and members of the report preparation committee: Mr. Basam Saif, Mr. Mohammed Modhish and Mr. Abdulhakim Al-Omaisi, along with participants from the Ministry’s Monitoring Committee for Reviewing and Discussing Reports.
