The Graduate Studies Council Holds 1st Regular Meeting for Academic Year 2025-2026 (1447 Hijri)

The Council of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at Sana’a University held its first meeting for the 2025/2026 academic year on Monday, 26 Muharram 1447 Hijri, corresponding to July 21, 2025. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Huda Al-Emad, the Vice-Rector’s Assistant for Graduate Studies, and was attended by vice deans of faculties and representatives of the university’s scientific and research centers.
During the meeting, the Council discussed a range of academic and administrative topics. It approved the proposal submitted by the application and admission screening committee and discussed solutions and remedies for all faculties and centers. In addition, it addressed a memo from the Faculty of Science requesting permission for students of the Grade Improvement Program to study with the students of the undergraduate program rather than joining classes along with students of the General Diploma for Non-Specialists.
The meeting started by reviewing and approving the minutes from the Council’s previous session. Then, it discussed the effective date for calculating penalties for late submission and the status of students who graduated from the Professional Master’s Program offered at the Ministry of Health and wish to continue higher studies at Sana’a University. The Council also addressed the topic of language proofreading and the review time for a thesis/dissertation by the main supervisor in accordance with the University Council’s decision, and the financial entitlement allocated by the University Council for the Research Integrity Committee and its distribution mechanism.
The Council also approved the opening of several new doctoral programs, including a PhD Program in Statistics and a PhD Program in Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, as well as PhD programs for the departments of Environmental Sciences and Earth Sciences at the Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources.
Furthermore, the Council reviewed the study plans submitted by faculties and centers for the Grade Improvement Diploma and the General Diploma for Non-Specialists. It also reviewed the requirement of publishing research in “Scopus” before PhD registration for students who received a “Pass” grade in their bachelor’s degree and a “good” grade in their master’s degree, or for students from professional master’s programs.
Then, the council approved the titles of ten PhD dissertations and 34 master’s theses, title modifications for four PhD dissertations and one master’s thesis, as well as the results of Viva Voce for 17 master’s theses and seven PhD dissertations.
The Council also approved the academic results for students in several programs, including PG diplomas, Grade Improvement diplomas, and Preliminary MA Coursework programs. Moreover, it approved a number of internal scholarships for teaching assistants and instructors to pursue master’s and PhD degrees at Sana’a University. It also discussed mechanisms to enhance academic cooperation with other public universities.
