Sana’a University has once again secured its position as the leading university in Yemen, according to the July 2025 edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, issued by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). The university achieved a remarkable leap in global rankings, advancing nearly 1,500 positions in just five months. Sana’a University now ranks 2056th globally out of more than 32,000 universities evaluated, compared to its previous position at 3540th in February 2025.
In addition to its outstanding national standing, Sana’a University also ranked 191st in the Arab World and 1758th in Asia, maintaining a distinct lead over all public and private Yemeni universities.
The Webometrics Ranking is one of the most recognized global indicators of university performance. It relies on precise digital metrics that include the size and transparency of online content, the quality and impact of published scientific research, the number of research articles in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, citations received by the university’s academic and research staff, and overall digital influence and web presence. The ranking aims to encourage universities to foster open-access publication, academic excellence, and digital visibility.
On this occasion, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University, expressed great pride in this scientific and research achievement. He stressed that the university’s consistent top performance in global rankings, like Webometrics, is the result of collective efforts and strategic planning aimed at providing high-quality education across hundreds of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as promoting impactful scientific research and community service.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti also highlighted the university’s commitment to upgrading its academic infrastructure, including labs, workshops, and digital platforms, developing the websites of faculties and scientific centers, enhancing the dissemination of Arabic and English scientific content, and strengthening the university’s global presence and academic reputation.
He added, “We are proud of our highly qualified academic and research staff and are moving steadily toward achieving international standards in education and research. The university’s websites are now important gateways for outreach, communication, and engagement with both the local community and the world.”
In conclusion, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti extended his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all university members, including faculty members, administrative staff, researchers, students, and web teams. He reaffirmed Sana’a University’s unwavering dedication to advancing its academic and societal mission with national vision and academic integrity.
Notably, the Webometrics Ranking encourages universities to improve their web presence and increase transparency in academic and research output. It has become an important reference for institutions aiming to enhance their international academic standing.
