Sana’a University Council of Graduate Studies Holds 2nd Meeting for the 2025/1447 AH Academic Year

The Council of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at Sana’a University held its 2nd regular meeting for the 2025–2026 academic year, chaired by Prof. Huda Ali Al-Emad, the Vice-Rector’s Assistant for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, with the participation of faculty vice deans and representatives from academic and research centers.
During the meeting, the Council addressed a range of academic and administrative matters. Key discussions centered on the full automation of graduate studies processes, covering all stages from coordination and registration to result approval for diplomas and coursework programs, as well as procedures for theses and dissertations, including registration, committee formation, scheduling, hall booking, and final approval, while also granting monitoring access to the vice dean.
The meeting also addressed the prohibition of launching programs that conflict with existing regulations, the completion of study plans for diploma programs targeting non-specialists, and the restriction of presenting topics that violate regulations, laws, or procedural guidelines. The Council also discussed ensuring fair distribution of MA courses among teachers without duplication, along with the requirement that graduate studies schedules should be submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies for review before announcement.
The Council approved the launch of several new academic programs, including the PhD in Statistics and the PhD in Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, the PhD programs in Environmental Sciences and Earth Sciences at the Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources, the MA in Renewable Energy Engineering at the Center for Science and Technology, and the review of the MA program at the Population Studies and Training Center (PSTC).
Moreover, the Council reviewed departmental and faculty minutes pending for more than six months, deciding that such items should be returned to faculties for renewal. It further approved titles for 9 PhD dissertations and 39 MA theses, as well as the title amendment and supervisor change for one thesis. In addition, it endorsed the results of six MA defenses and three PhD dissertations across multiple faculties and centers.
Decisions also included approval of student results in several programs, including PG diploma programs, MA coursework diplomas, and academic improvement courses. The Council also approved a number of internal scholarships for teaching assistants and lecturers pursuing MA and PhD degrees and discussed mechanisms to strengthen academic cooperation with public universities.
The Council reviewed and approved the minutes from the Council’s previous meeting.
