Workshop on Reviewing and Updating MA Programs at the Faculty of Computer & Information Technology, Sana’a University

Sana’a University hosted a workshop today dedicated to reviewing and updating MA programs at the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology. This initiative was organized by the faculty as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance academic programs in line with international advancements.
The workshop, which brought together a distinguished group of experts and professors in computer and information technology from the university, aimed to assess and refine postgraduate programs in the areas of Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, and Cybersecurity.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Hatem Al-Dois, underscored the significance of the workshop in ensuring that MA programs respond to social needs, keep pace with rapid global progress, and contribute to qualitative advancement through the effective use of information and communication technologies.
He emphasized that Sana’a University plays a pivotal and complementary role alongside the Ministry as a genuine partner in decision-making and in assisting national institutions in shaping policies. He also commended the strong competencies and expertise available at the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology.
Prof. Al-Dois urged participants to benefit from the findings and literature produced by the Higher Supervisory Committee for the Evaluation of Postgraduate Programs at private universities. He noted that within three months, the committee had assessed 86 MA and PhD programs across 17 private universities, based on a reference and methodological framework approved by the Council of Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA).
Meanwhile, the Rector of Sana’a University, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, reaffirmed the university’s aspirations to rank among the leading universities in the region and to serve as the foremost national center of expertise. He pointed out that the university currently offers approximately 250 postgraduate programs at the MA and PhD levels.
He further highlighted the university’s contribution to sustainable development by fostering a higher education environment that upholds quality standards and delivers distinguished research services.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti also reviewed the evolution of the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology since its establishment in 2007, the progress it has achieved, and the introduction of innovative programs in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Multimedia, which have expanded to include MA and PhD studies in these fields.
He stressed that revising and upgrading postgraduate programs is a cornerstone for advancing education and producing high-quality outcomes that contribute to comprehensive development. He called on the Ministry of Telecommunications to support the faculty’s programs in Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Information Systems, in line with its mandate of safeguarding national information security through the provision of laboratories and technical resources.
The workshop, attended by Dr. Adel Al-Matari, Chairman of the CAQA, and Dr. Fouad Abdulrazzaq, Executive Director of the Yemen Information Technology Center (YICT), featured a presentation by the Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shalabi. He outlined the objectives of the workshop in reviewing and enhancing four postgraduate programs offered by the faculty.
He affirmed that the review and development of postgraduate programs reflect the faculty’s awareness of the vital importance of these fields, their direct impact on people’s lives, and the growing demand within Yemeni society and neighboring communities for specialized competencies and professional skills. He also stressed their crucial role in safeguarding information security and countering cyber intrusions and electronic warfare.
