Sana’a – September 23, 2025
Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University, congratulated two faculty members; Dr. Tareq Al-Shami from the Faculty of Education and Dr. Ali Al-Muntaser from the Faculty of Education, Arhab, on being named among Stanford University’s ranking of the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists, based on the Scopus database.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti emphasized that this achievement highlights the distinguished research reputation of Sana’a University. He noted that the university places strong emphasis on advancing scientific research, with particular priority given to supporting and motivating its scholars. He further directed that both researchers be formally honored in recognition of their contributions, which represent a significant addition to the university’s academic standing.
For the fourth consecutive year, Dr. Tareq Al-Shami has maintained his leading position among Yemeni university researchers. This year’s ranking featured 22 Yemeni scholars, with Al-Shami topping the category of “most-cited researchers over an entire career.” He achieved a global ranking of 128,563, publishing 154 studies between 2018 and 2025 with 3,456 citations in the subfield of General Mathematics and the broader field of Mathematics and Statistics. He also led the category of “most-cited researchers for 2024,” with a global rank of 11,662, 154 studies, and 989 citations.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ali Al-Muntaser ranked tenth among Yemeni researchers for 2024 citations, achieving a global position of 149,864 with 37 studies published between 2018 and 2024 and 523 citations in the subfield of Applied Physics and the broader field of Physics and Astronomy.
It is noteworthy that the list of the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists is widely regarded as a key global tool for assessing scientific impact. It draws on Scopus data and incorporates rigorous indicators, including the Hirsch index (h-index), which measures productivity and citation impact, and the composite c-score, which evaluates overall research influence irrespective of publication count while accounting for authorship roles.
