Sana’a University Faculty of Medicine Continues Progress Toward International Accreditation

The Faculty of Medicine at Sana’a University held an expanded meeting today, chaired by University Rector Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, to discuss the latest developments regarding the international accreditation project (WFME) and to review progress achieved in recent months.
During the meeting, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti affirmed the university’s firm commitment to advancing academic development and meeting internationally recognized quality standards. He noted that the university leadership places particular emphasis on the Faculty of Medicine, considering it the leading institution for medical education in Yemen.
“The university is committed to providing all necessary support to ensure the Faculty of Medicine succeeds in obtaining international academic accreditation,” said Prof. Al-Bukhaiti. “We will continue to work in close coordination with the Faculty’s administration and the relevant committees to achieve this important national objective,” he added.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti also praised the efforts of the Faculty leadership, quality committees, and academic teams, directing that the pace of facility upgrades and modernization be accelerated. He stressed the importance of completing the preparation of laboratories, teaching facilities, and the pathology museum in accordance with accreditation requirements.
The meeting was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, University Secretary General Iskandar Al-Maqaleh, Vice Deans Dr. Anwar Al-Mughalles and Dr. Ahmed Mujahid, national expert Dr. Saleh Bahaj, and members of the Steering Committee for International Accreditation. Participants reviewed reports submitted by the technical committees and academic departments concerning accreditation requirements and approved several recommendations aimed at completing administrative and academic procedures in line with international standards.
Dr. Saleh Bahaj presented an overview of the progress made toward fulfilling quality criteria, noting that the ongoing efforts represent a strategic partnership aimed at elevating medical education in Yemen to global levels.
Prof. Al-Shahari emphasized that the Faculty of Medicine is working collaboratively with the university leadership to complete accreditation requirements, describing this stage as a significant milestone in the faculty’s journey toward international recognition.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the committee assigned specialized working teams to follow up on the implementation of recommendations and to submit weekly progress reports to ensure objectives are met within the established timeframe.
