Sana’a University has announced the launch of its new academic Master’s and Doctorate programs in Population Studies, introduced during a special orientation workshop organized by the University’s Population Studies and Training Center (PSTC).
The workshop aimed to highlight the objectives of the new programs, raise awareness about the importance of population studies in Yemen, and underscore the Center’s role in community service by showcasing its achievements over recent years.
In his address, Prof. Zaid Al-Warith, the University Rector’s Assistant for Centers Affairs, emphasized that the PSTC is a specialized hub that attracts significant interest from researchers due to its focus on developing solutions for pressing community needs. He stated that the launch of these advanced academic pathways reinforces the university’s position as a leading institution in this field.
“These programs are designed to equip a new generation of experts with the skills to understand demographic shifts, forecast future trends, and formulate policies that support sustainable development,” Dr. Al-Warith added.
He further noted that graduates will be qualified for careers in government population planning and development, statistical surveys, data management, demographic analysis in research centers, statistics authorities, and reproductive health programs.
For his part, the Center’s Director, Dr. Nasser Al-Badai, explained that the launch of these programs responds to a growing need for in-depth population studies. He stressed the importance of understanding demographic changes not merely as statistics, but as factors representing human capital, social capital, and a primary driver of change.
Dr. Al-Badai confirmed that both programs were designed according to the latest academic standards to meet labor market needs and contribute to evidence-based decision-making.
