Sana’a University and Ministry of Agriculture Discuss MoU to Develop Agricultural and Veterinary Education and Practical Training

A joint meeting was held today at Sana’a University, chaired by Mr. Mohammed Al-Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Political Council, and attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, and Sana’a University. The meeting discussed the clauses of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at directing and developing agricultural education at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, enhancing practical training, and linking graduation projects to national agricultural development needs.
During the meeting, Mr. Mohammed Al-Nuaimi stressed the importance of this cooperation, noting that discussing and approving the MoU represents a strategic step toward advancing agricultural education and a real investment in Yemen’s future. He emphasized that this step will positively impact the country and its citizens by boosting agricultural production, achieving food security, and enhancing the efficiency of national cadres capable of managing agricultural projects effectively.
Prof. Hatem Al-Dois, Deputy Minister of Education and Scientific Research, explained that this cooperation reflects the government’s commitment to supporting agricultural education and linking it to sustainable development. He affirmed that the MoU will contribute to developing students’ scientific and research skills and strengthening their practical capabilities, thereby preparing qualified cadres able to address national agricultural challenges, achieve food security, and support the national economy.
In turn, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University, stated that the meeting aimed to establish clear mechanisms to support students’ graduation projects across all scientific specializations in the two faculties. He emphasized enabling students to select high-quality projects that address pressing agricultural problems, particularly in rural districts, thereby strengthening scientific research and practical application.
He noted that the objectives of the MoU include supporting students in implementing graduation projects, easing financial burdens, promoting the selection of projects that address urgent agricultural issues, and linking graduation projects to agricultural development needs across various districts, with a particular focus on rural areas. The MoU also seeks to enhance field-based practical training in educational farms and laboratories, improve research quality, and develop students’ scientific, research, and administrative skills to build qualified cadres that support the national agricultural sector, achieve food security, and strengthen the national economy.
Meanwhile, Mr. Samir Al-Hanani, Acting Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, highlighted the ministry’s keenness to partner with Sana’a University and benefit from its academic and research expertise to support national agricultural development projects and achieve sustainable development.
The meeting also discussed mechanisms for financing graduation projects, strengthening coordination between the university and the ministry, and activating practical training for students to ensure research quality and alignment with the real needs of the agricultural sector.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Adel Al-Washali, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the university; Mr. Himyar Al-Jabali from the Scientific Research Unit of the Supreme Agricultural Committee; and Mr. Yahya Khamaj from the Agricultural Education Department of the Agricultural Committee.
It is worth noting that these discussions come within the framework of Sana’a University’s efforts to enhance institutional partnerships, develop higher education and scientific research, and strengthen the university’s academic and research presence locally and internationally, in line with quality standards and global university rankings.
