Sana’a, 18 January 2026, corresponding to 29 Rajab 1447 AH.
Sana’a University has once again retained its advanced position in the January 2026 edition of the Webometrics global university rankings, continuing to rank first among Yemen’s 54 universities and confirming its steady presence within international academic rankings. This accomplishment highlights the ongoing progress achieved by the University across academic, scientific, and research domains.
Based on the published results, Sana’a University ranked 2,057th among more than 32,000 universities and higher education institutions worldwide. It also preserved its standing at 191st among Arab universities and 1,758th at the Asian level, underscoring the consistency of its institutional performance and the growing strength of its digital and research presence in the global academic arena.
Commenting on this achievement, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University, extended his congratulations to all University members and affiliates, describing the ranking as a positive indicator of the cumulative efforts exerted in recent years and the University’s strong institutional commitment to structured academic and scientific work.
The University Rector emphasized that global rankings are not objectives in themselves, but rather indicators that mirror the University’s actual conditions and the tangible development taking place in academic, scientific, research, media, and technical fields. He explained that progress in global rankings is closely linked to the quality of performance in lecture halls, laboratories, research centers, scientific publishing systems, and university media platforms.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti urged staff responsible for the University’s official websites and social media platforms, as well as those of its faculties and research centers, to intensify their efforts, build on existing achievements, and work collectively to safeguard this advanced position. He emphasized that this should be accomplished through professionalism, continuous content updates, and the accurate and systematic documentation of academic, scientific, and research activities.
He also noted that the University continues to prioritize digital transformation and the development of its media and technical infrastructure in support of academic and research activities, contributing to an enhanced institutional image and a stronger presence at both regional and international levels.
Issued by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Webometrics ranking is among the world’s most reputable university rankings. It evaluates institutions based on indicators related to digital visibility, academic openness, and the quality and impact of scientific research.
This achievement confirms Sana’a University’s ability to maintain its leading position and align its academic and research efforts with international ranking standards, despite existing challenges, thereby reinforcing its role as a leading national institution in higher education and scientific research.
