Master’s Degree Awarded to Ms. Amani Lutf Al-Thulaya in Orthodontics

Ms. Amani Lutf Mohammed Al-Thulaya was awarded a Master’s Degree in Orthodontics for her thesis titled: Risk Factors of Osteomyelitis in the Maxilla and Mandibular Bones among Patients Attending Hospitals and Dental Clinics in Sana’a City, which was submitted to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The study aimed to evaluate and investigate cases of jaw osteomyelitis among Yemeni patients in Sana’a City by analyzing the demographic, clinical, and behavioral factors associated with the disease.
The study yielded a number of key findings summarized as follows:
A clear predominance of males was found, accounting for 78.4% of cases, with a mean age of 42.8 years.
A high prevalence of qat chewing among patients with mandibular osteomyelitis existed, reaching 89.2%, with a statistically significant association with systemic risk factors.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
Implementing awareness programs for physicians and dentists on the importance of early diagnosis of jaw osteomyelitis.
Enhancing recognition of the risk factors associated with the condition.
The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
