Sana’a University Launches Specialized Workshop to Update Graduate Program Specifications at Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences in Line with International Standards

Sana’a – March 3, 2026 (Ramadan 14, 1447 Hijri)
Under the auspices of Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Sana’a University Rector, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences today, launched a workshop to review and update the graduate program specification documents (PSD). The workshop is organized by the faculty in cooperation with the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center (ADQAC) at Sana’a University, as part of the university’s efforts to develop its academic programs and strengthen their readiness for international accreditation.
During the opening session, the University Rector affirmed that developing graduate programs represents a strategic priority within the university’s plan. He emphasized that updating graduate programs’ PSDs is not merely a formal procedure but a comprehensive academic process that reconstructs programs on rigorous scientific foundations—beginning with the formulation of clear, measurable learning outcomes and culminating in an assessment system that ensures effective achievement of those outcomes.
He further noted that aligning programs with the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) constitutes a pivotal step toward strengthening international academic recognition and expanding opportunities for faculty graduates in training, research, and global academic rankings. He explained that the university adopts an integrated institutional approach based on documenting academic processes, promoting a culture of quality, and linking curricula with the professional and research competencies required internationally. He stressed that the outcomes of the workshop should be translated into clear implementation plans and measurable performance indicators subject to monitoring and evaluation.
The Rector also underscored the importance of collaboration and integration of efforts among academic departments and working in a spirit of teamwork to ensure the development of graduate programs capable of competing at both regional and international levels and keeping pace with rapid developments in medical education.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, explained that the workshop forms part of a phased plan to review all graduate programs, including the Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master’s programs, and academic doctoral programs. The process aims to reconstruct learning outcomes alignment matrices, develop measurement and evaluation mechanisms, and strengthen integration between course content and clinical and research competencies.
The first day’s sessions included discussions on the Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs, during which the approved program description documents were reviewed and analyzed in terms of their alignment with international reference competencies. Participants also discussed internal quality assurance requirements and mechanisms for continuous improvement.
The workshop is scheduled to continue tomorrow with discussions on Master’s and academic doctoral programs, within a comprehensive development pathway aimed at reinforcing the standing of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University at both the regional and international levels.
