Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Waleed Hassan Al-Mutawakel in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology

Mr. Waleed Hassan Mohammed Al-Mutawakel was awarded a Master’s Degree in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology with distinction for his thesis titled: The Use of Intraoral Scanning in Human Identification Through Dental Morphological Traits of Living Individuals and Human Remains Across Different Yemeni Populations, which was submitted to the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The thesis aimed to:
Utilize dental morphological traits as an accurate method for human identification.
Establish a database and digital repository to support forensic identification processes.
The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:
Distinct dental traits were identified across several Yemeni governorates.
Shoveling trait prevailed more in Hodeida Governorate.
The labial convexity trait was more prominent in Dhamar Governorate.
The wedge-shaped trait was notably observed in Ibb Governorate.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
Expanding the database to include all Yemeni governorates and increasing sample sizes.
Encouraging relevant authorities to adopt and build upon this research due to its significance in forensic medicine applications.
The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
