Sana’a University Spearheads Strategic Environmental and Agricultural Initiatives Across Various Faculties

SANA’A – University Media Center (March 30, 2026)
Sana’a University has announced the commencement of a series of specialized environmental and agricultural projects across several of its faculties for the 2025–2026 academic year. These initiatives, carried out under the direct guidance and continuous oversight of the University President, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, underscore the administration’s commitment to enhancing environmental sustainability and improving the quality of the academic atmosphere.
Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Sabri, Director General of Gardens at Sana’a University, confirmed in a statement to the university’s official website that work is proceeding at a steady pace to expand green spaces and develop natural resources. He noted that these projects are designed to create a healthy, stimulating educational environment that bridges the gap between theoretical study and practical application. Among the most prominent developments is the establishment of fruit orchards covering three hectares, where more than 1,100 trees of diverse varieties have been planted to contribute to food security for the university community and provide a model for students in agricultural disciplines.
The scope of these efforts further extends to the rehabilitation of the educational farm in Wadi Moor, Hodeidah Governorate. This project aims to produce approximately 45,000 bundles of fodder annually to meet the needs of the educational farms within the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, thereby reducing overall operational expenditures. Moreover, environmental improvement projects have reached various university facilities, involving soil reclamation, the modernization of irrigation systems, and the planting of hundreds of trees alongside comprehensive pruning and maintenance campaigns to enhance the campus’s aesthetic and ecological efficiency.
Further greening efforts include the planting of trees along three kilometers of the university’s main thoroughfares to increase vegetation cover and mitigate pollution. Engineer Al-Sabri highlighted that the General Administration of Gardens has also focused on technical support, such as rehabilitating agricultural equipment, establishing modern irrigation networks, implementing pest control programs, and producing organic fertilizers. He concluded by emphasizing that these initiatives serve as a practical translation of the university’s leadership vision, solidifying Sana’a University’s position as a leading model for environmental sustainability among Yemeni universities.
