Sana’a University Council Approves Academic Reforms, Prioritizes Publishing in Reputable, Internationally Indexed Journals

The Sana’a University Council, chaired by University Rector Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, convened today for its tenth regular session of the 2025–2026 academic year. The meeting resulted in a comprehensive suite of academic and organizational resolutions aimed at bolstering the university’s international standing and administrative efficiency.
A primary focus of the session was the reinforcement of research standards. The Council issued a directive via the office of the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs to faculty members appointed under specific publishing requirements. These academics are now mandated to publish their research in reputable, internationally indexed journals within a maximum timeframe of one year or face administrative measures in accordance with university regulations.
The Council also approved several structural and curricular updates across various faculties. In the Faculty of Dentistry, seven faculty members were transferred from the Department of Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry to the Department of Prosthodontics. Furthermore, the Council moved forward with the final review of the Bachelor of Physical Therapy program at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences and approved the launch of a Master’s program in Early Childhood at the Faculty of Education. The Council also approved three new specialized tracks in the Department of Educational Administration and Planning: Educational Supervision, School Administration, and Educational Planning.
In the field of medical sciences, the Council approved updates to the Master’s programs in Clinical Pharmacy and Industrial Pharmacy. Moreover, tuition fees were set for the PhD. degree in Special Education at the University Center for Students with Special Needs. The meeting also addressed graduate outcomes, formally approving the results of 12 doctoral candidates and 16 master’s researchers across various disciplines, alongside the graduation lists for the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences, Faculty of Physical Education, and Faculty of Science.
Looking toward professional development and digital modernization, the Council approved a training plan submitted by the Executive Unit for GIS and Remote Sensing. This program is designed to enhance the skills of university staff, students, and external participants. The session concluded with a presentation on the first phase of the university’s new bilingual website project. Developed by the University’s Center for Digital Transformation, the redesigned portal is a cornerstone of the university’s digital strategy to improve its global media presence. The Council approved the official launch of the updated website as soon as data migration is complete.
