Today, the proceedings of the 1st International Conference on “Migration and Asylum in the Arab Region: Reality, Challenges and Solutions” started with local and Arab participations.
The two-day conference, organized by the International Network for Arab Societies Study (INASS) in collaboration with Migration and Refugee Studies Center, Sana’a University, and the Arab Association for Educational Administration, aims to shed light on the problems and challenges facing countries hosting migrants, refugees, stateless people and displaced persons, and the proposed solutions and remedies for them.
At the opening session of the conference, held in collaboration with Yarmouk University in Jordan, other scientific and research institutions and international organizations, Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Al-Qassim Abass, underlined the importance of this conference to shed light on the conditions of migrants and refugees in Yemen and the Arab countries and the difficulties facing the host countries, especially with the continued aggression and siege on Yemen and its subsequent impacts on the country’s national security and economic situation.
He considered the convening of the conference as a rendition of the University’s mission in education, scientific research, and community service. It also intends to find the necessary solutions to the economic, social and political problems that Yemen is currently suffering from.
In this regard, the University Rector, Prof. Al-Qassim Abass, directed the University’s research centers to carry out scientific studies and research to address the humanitarian and societal issues facing the country as well as the problems caused by the unjust aggression and siege.
The two-day conference, held in both ‘in-presence and virtual’ modes, intends to discuss the official policies, legislation and procedures pertaining to migration and asylum in the Arab region, and diagnose the impacts of migration and asylum on the host Arab countries and the region beyond.
The conference discusses 47 research papers submitted by 61 researchers from 11 countries. It includes 11 themes distributed as follows: “Policies and Legislation; Rights and Duties; Causes and Effects of Migration, Asylum and Displacement on Countries; the Impacts of Global Epidemics, Wars and Crises on them, Ways of Integrating them into Host Societies; Challenges Facing Governments, Local and International Agencies and Organizations towards these Groups; and Proposed Solutions and Remedies.”
