11th September 2021, Inauguration of Noor Al-Hussein Medical Ophthalmology Camp at the University of Sana’a
Today, Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Dr. Al-Qassim Abass, together with Assistant Undersecretary of the Capital Secretariat, Mr. Ahsan Al-Qadhi, inaugurated in the outpatient clinics of the University Hospital Nour Al-Hussein’s Fifth Free Medical Camp for Ophthalmology. Prof. Al-Qassim and Mr. Al-Qadhi, along with the Director General of the Capital Secretariat Health Office, Dr. Mutahar Al-Marwani, were briefed on the progress of the camp, which is being carried out for five days at Sana’a University Hospital under the supervision of the Faculty of Medicine, and the sponsorship of Sayed Shuhada Committee, Yemen Branch. They observed the nature of the services the Camp will provide including check-up and examination procedures for the poor and needy people, in addition to performing about 100 free cataracts and Intraocular Lens Implants surgeries, as well as dispensing medication. Sana’a University Rector explained that the camp is considered the first task and activity performed by the University Hospital in service of the community. He appreciated the role of the faculty members in the Ophthalmology Department at the Faculty of Medicine, the National Program for Control Blindness at the Ministry of Health, the hospital staff, the Capital Secretariat’s Health Office, and the organizers of the Camp for their fruitful efforts in making the work of this Camp a success. Moreover, he considered the establishment of the Camp amidst the difficult circumstances and conditions the country is undergoing as a humanitarian gesture to alleviate the suffering of the patients. On the other hand, Al-Qadi along with the Capital Secretariat Undersecretary and the Director of the Capital Secretariat Health Office appreciated the efforts of Sayed Shuhada Committee in establishing this Camp and conducting 100 free cataracts surgeries for the poor and impoverished residents of the Secretariat, which contributes to alleviating their suffering. They urged businessmen and philanthropists to interact and contribute to supporting these free medical activities with a view to controlling blindness among many poor and needy people in various governorates. In turn, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University, Dr. Hassan al-Mahbashi, and Vice-Dean for Hospital Affairs and Clinical Training, Dr. Mohammad Al-Shahari, explained that the Camp comes within the framework of the activities of the Faculty of Medicine to serve the community and alleviate the sufferings of citizens. They pointed out that the Camp is an inevitable response to the responsibility placed on the shoulders of the faculty members since specialists and consultants are available on the campus of Sana’a University and that there is a need for conducting medical activities that contribute to community service.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the Office of Sayed Shuhada Committee in Yemen, Mr. Abdo Hassan, confirmed that the Camp is the Fifth program implemented and funded by the Committee for performing free cataracts and Intraocular Lens Implants surgeries, which embodies the principle of social solidarity in society. The inauguration was attended by the project manager of the University Hospital, Dr. Ahmad Al-Batool, and the Director of Al-Kuwait University Hospital, Dr. Amin Al-Junaid.
