Sana’a University football league kicked off today at the University’s Central Stadium, under the patronage of the University Rector Prof. Al-Kasem Mohammed Abass.
The tournament, organized by the University’s General Directorate of Student Activities and the University Student Forum, will run from September 22nd, 2024, to January 27th, 2025, featuring teams from 16 faculties divided into four groups.
Group A: includes the Faculty of Languages, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Media, and Faculty of Arts.
Group B: features the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Petroleum, and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Group C: comprises the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Education-Sana’a, and Faculty of Dentistry.
Group D: consists of the Faculty of Physical Education, Faculty of Computer and IT, Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Engineering.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prof. Mohammed Ali Shukri, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, along with other officials, faculty members, youth leaders, students from the faculties, and members of the tournament organizing committee. Prof. Shukri emphasized the University’s commitment to organizing sports activities, highlighting their importance alongside the educational process.
He also noted that the University leadership is dedicated to promoting sports throughout the academic year by organizing competitions in sports such as football, volleyball, chess, and table tennis.
Additionally, Mr. Abdul Qader Al-Ghorbani, Director of Student Activities, highlighted the University’s efforts to foster a spirit of sportsmanship among students and encourage participation in diverse athletic activities.
Following the opening ceremony, the league’s first matches commenced. The initial game featured the Faculty of Languages versus the Faculty of Arts, with the latter winning 3-1. In the second match from Group B, the Faculty of Commerce and Economics triumphed over the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine with a score of 6-2.
