The student Buthaina Abdulmalik Yahya Hashem obtained a master’s degree with a grade of 95% and an excellent rating in the Department of (Information Technology) specializing in (Networks) College of (Computer and Information Technology) at Sana’a University, with the committee’s recommendation to print the thesis at the university’s expense for her thesis entitled (“Smart Contract Based Blockchain Model for Efficient Agricultural Product Traceability”) on Tuesday, 2/30/1446 AH corresponding to 9/3/2024 AD.
The discussion and judging committee consisted of Associate Professor (Adnan Yahya Al-Mutawakel) the main supervisor and member of the committee, Professor Dr. (Munir Abdullah Hazza) as an external examiner and head of the committee, and Associate Dr. (Naji Ali Al-Shaibani) as an internal examiner and member of the committee.
The thesis aimed at tracking in supply chain systems, which is a topic that has received a lot of attention, so there was a need for new tracking methods, one of which is the technology Blockchain. Although blockchain technology has solved some of the limitations, there are still many limitations, as scientific papers have not applied the tracking process with a practical experiment that shows the tracking process for each stage, but rather measures the performance of networks, so the main purpose of the research study is to fill the gap in the literature of blockchain technology.
This main purpose can be achieved based on the following objectives:
The possibility of applying the tracking process to supply chains with a practical experiment, improving the speed of blockchain operations in tracking the agricultural supply chain, improving the verification of operations in terms of a specific group of participants, improving the scalability of blockchain (productivity, cost, scalability and networks), by building a model based on smart contracts with the blockchain system to track the agricultural supply chain using the Hyperledger Fabric platform, the CouchDB database and the locust testing tool.
The results showed that there is no delay in the transfer start time compared to other networks such as the Ethereum network which can take half an hour, and there is no cost in the tracking process compared to other networks, in addition to the test results using the locust tool, the scalability and productivity were high, which indicates high and relatively better performance and efficiency. The discussion was attended by the dean of the college, his deputies, department heads, a number of faculty members, students, interested parties, and a number of the student’s colleagues and family members.
