This study aimed to measure the role of strategic leadership, including the dimensions of ‘strategic direction, core capabilities, human capital development, effective organizational culture, emphasis on ethical practices, balanced organizational control’, in improving institutional performance with its dimensions (financial dimension, customer dimension, operations dimension, learning and growth dimension) through the application of total quality management with its dimensions (top management commitment, customer focus, continuous improvement, teamwork) in Yemeni banks in the capital, Sana’a.
The study reached a set of conclusions, the most significant of which are as follows:
- The study found that strategic leadership plays a positive role in enhancing institutional performance in Yemeni banks under study. However, its impact was less pronounced compared to its role in implementing Total Quality Management (TQM).
- Strategic leadership demonstrated attention to all its dimensions. The most influential dimension was “Strategic Orientation,” while the least influential was “Balanced Organizational Control.”
- The study revealed that banking leadership showed relative interest in enhancing institutional performance. The most achieved dimension was the “Financial Dimension,” while the least achieved was the “Learning and Growth Dimension.” The overall level of TQM implementation across all dimensions was moderate, with “Continuous Improvement” being the most achieved aspect and “Teamwork” the least achieved.
The study concluded with a number of recommendations, including the following:
- There should be greater emphasis on practicing strategic leadership in Yemeni banks, aligning it with the modern changes and developments in the banking sector. This will ensure that banks remain competitive and adaptive to evolving industry demands.
- It is essential to prepare, develop, and train future leaders. Additionally, there should be a focus on implementing an effective incentive system characterized by fairness and equality, ensuring alignment between individual values and the values of the bank.
- Greater attention should be given to the application of TQM by encouraging teamwork, fostering collaborative decision-making, and establishing mechanisms to measure and address customer needs effectively.
The PhD dissertation was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The Candidate was recommended to be awarded the degree of PhD in Business Administration.
