Faculty of Medicine Organizes Symposium on “Medical Education in the Face of War”

Today, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University organized a scientific symposium titled “Light of Hope: Medical Education in the Face of Aggression and War.”
During the symposium, Prof. Khaled Al-Khamisi, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, highlighted the extent of damage the medical sector has suffered due to the war and blockade imposed on Yemen and the subsequent suffering of patients.
He emphasized the importance of the symposium, which was attended by the international and national coordinator of the Humanitarian Defense Network, Dr. Pablo Allende— Chairperson of the Dr. Salvador Allende Foundation for Policy, Health, and Integration in Latin America—as well as Dr. Roberto Bermudez, Chairperson of the Raul Pellegrin Chilean Foundation, a member of the
Walls and Anti-Imperialist Resistance Gathering and a member of the Health Resistance Movement.
Prof. Al-Khamisi explained that the symposium aims to raise awareness among international activists about the suffering endured by the Yemeni people due to war and blockade, their resilience and steadfastness in confronting global arrogance and tyranny, and the potential for strengthening relations with international allies while exchanging expertise and knowledge in the medical field.
Meanwhile, Allende and Bermudez expressed their happiness at visiting Yemen and witnessing the dire humanitarian situation and the suffering caused by war and blockade. They noted the spread of diseases and epidemics due to the war, particularly the rising rates of malnutrition among women and children, as well as the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases.
The symposium was attended by the Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs, Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Student Affairs, Dr. Anwar Mughlis, along with several faculty members and a large gathering of medical students.
The visiting delegation also toured the faculty’s facilities and departments, including simulation and clinical skills labs, as well as applied programs laboratories. They received a briefing from the Dean on the academic programs and medical laboratories of the faculty.
Allende and Bermudez praised the infrastructure of the Faculty of Medicine at Sana’a University, its facilities, academic programs, and the quality of medical education offered.
