Sana’a University Honors the Teams Involved in Achieving Academic Accreditation

March 10, 2025 | 10 Ramadan 1446 Hijri
Under the patronage of Prof. Al-Kasem Mohammed Abbas, Rector of Sana’a University, the university honored today the deans of faculties, vice-deans for quality affairs, and the teams involved in achieving institutional and programmatic academic accreditation. This recognition comes in appreciation of their efforts in obtaining national institutional and programmatic academic accreditation from the Council for Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA).
During the event, organized by the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center (ADQAC), Prof. Abbas emphasized that this recognition acknowledges the dedication of faculty deans, their quality affairs vice deans, secretaries-general, and all teams that contributed to achieving institutional and programmatic accreditation for all academic programs—except for the Laboratory and Advanced Nursing programs at the Faculty of Medicine, which are in the final stages of meeting accreditation requirements.
He explained that institutional accreditation for ten faculties ensures accreditation for all their academic programs, while programmatic accreditation applies to faculties with a single program, such as the Faculty of Physical Education, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Faculty of Sharia and Law.
Prof. Abbas commended the efforts of university leadership, faculty deans, department heads, quality affairs vice deans, faculty secretaries-general, academic staff, administrative personnel, and technical teams. He praised their dedication, which resulted in the completion and structuring of approximately 400 academic programs, encompassing 8,000 courses. All programs were aligned with the CAQA’s framework and effectively implemented in classrooms, culminating in the university obtaining full institutional and programmatic national accreditation.
He underscored that quality assurance is a shared responsibility that must be actively applied to ensure continuous improvement and development at the highest standards. He also affirmed that ongoing evaluations would be conducted by the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center and CAQA to maintain compliance with approved standards.
Prof. Abbas mentioned that this national achievement was completed after great, diligent, and sincere efforts by all the university’s academic, administrative, and technical staff and the implementation of more than 500 workshops that contributed to spreading and enhancing the culture of quality in all university faculties.
He further stated that the university has a global aspiration for international accreditation and called on faculty deans to begin forming committees to review international accreditation standards relevant to their disciplines and specializations.
Steps are currently underway to fulfill the requirements for international medical accreditation, as well as accreditation in the fields of computer science and engineering, with the goal of securing international accreditation for all academic programs. He noted that CAQA is functioning effectively and that national accreditation standards are aligned with international accreditation standards.
Prof. Huda Al-Emad, ADQAC Dean, confirmed that Sana’a University has obtained full institutional and programmatic accreditation for over 214 academic programs across all faculties, except for the Laboratory and Advanced Nursing programs at the Faculty of Medicine and Applied Sciences.
She highlighted that the guidelines and standards established by CAQA are in alignment with international accreditation standards. She pointed out that securing national academic accreditation is a prerequisite for achieving international accreditation and that most national and international standards share similarities. Consequently, she urged a dedicated effort to fulfill the remaining requirements necessary for international accreditation.
Prof. Al-Emad noted that the university has successfully met 95% of the necessary standards for achieving international accreditation for its Medicine and Surgery program. She expressed appreciation for the robust support from the university leadership for the committees and teams dedicated to this national milestone, which involves securing complete institutional and programmatic national accreditation for the university’s faculties.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of shields and certificates of appreciation to faculty deans, vice-deans for quality affairs, and the teams involved in achieving institutional and programmatic accreditation. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Omar Daer Al-Bukhaiti, Vice-Minister of Information; Prof. Mohammed Dhaifullah, Secretary-General of CAQA; Prof. Abdulrahman Al-Saafani, CAQA Member; Prof. Mohammed Shukri, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs; Prof. Zaid Al-Wareeth, Assistant Rector for Centers Affairs; Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs; and Mr. Iskandar Al-Maqaleh, Secretary-General of the University.
