Public MA Viva-Voce Examination of Mr. Saleh Al-Khawi, from the Department of Arabic Language, Faculty of Languages

The Public Viva-Voce Examination for the MA Thesis hereto entitled, The sentimental tendency in the poetry of Muhammad al-Sharfi, submitted by Mr. Saleh Saleh Mahmoud Al-Khawi, Department of Arabic, Faculty of Languages, was held on Thursday, 28/08/1446 Hijri corresponding to 27/02/2025. The Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:
1. Assoc. Prof. Ali Hamoud Ahmed Al-Samhi, External Examiner, Ibb University, Chair.
2. Assoc. Prof. Adnan Yousef Ahmed Al-Shaebi, Main supervisor, Sana’a University, Member.
3. Dr. Nabeela Ali Esmaeel Almutawkil, Internal examiner, Sana’a University, Member.
The study aimed to:
Investigate the emotional tendency, reveal its manifestations and dimensions, and examine the emotional and sentimental aspects in Al-Sharfi’s poetry, such as sadness, anxiety, complaint, and contemplation of the universe and life.
The study also aims to understand the poet’s connection to the reality in which he lived and the events that he lived and lived through it
The study concluded with a number of findings, including
1. Al-Sharfi’s emotional poetry carries many objective and artistic values in his life.
2. Studying Al-Sharfi’s emotional poetry revealed Al-Sharfi’s emotional personality and showed us a true image of him in its highest manifestations. The emotional poetry also revealed the most important aspects that were formed in Al-Sharfi’s conscience, such as sadness, pain, complaint, and anxiety, and it showed his visions of the universe and life.
3. The study concluded that Al-Sharfi was connected to his surroundings and environment in which he lived, and that environment had a diverse role in influencing the emotional aspect of his poetry.
The researcher made several recommendations, including
1. Urging graduate students to conduct further studies on contemporary Yemeni literature.
2. Conducting studies on the poet Al-Sharfi’s works, such as intertextuality, symbolism, etc.
3. The study recommends that Al-Sharfi’s poetry be included in university curricula and in education primary and secondary.
The MA thesis has been examined and is recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The Candidate was recommended to be awarded the degree of MA majoring in Modern literature with an overall grade of 92%, Excellent.
The viva was attended by academics, researchers, students, and other interested individuals, including the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
