Sana’a – Monday, April 21, 2025
Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Sana’a University Rector, chaired a comprehensive meeting today with key university staff, including the University General Secretary, administrative staff, department directors, faculty and center secretaries, registrars, and financial managers. The session focused on evaluating current administrative performance and identifying effective strategies to enhance the university’s operational efficiency.
The meeting was also attended by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ibrahim Al-Mutaa; Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Mohammed Shukri; the Rector’s Assistant for Scientific and Research Centers’ Affairs, Prof. Zaid Al-Wareeth; the Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs, Mr. Adel Al-Habbabi; and the University’s General Secretary, Mr. Iskandar Al-Maqaleh.
In his remarks, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti commended the contributions of the previous university leadership in collaboration with the academic and administrative staff over the past years. Their efforts, he noted, have played a fundamental role in elevating the university’s standing and reinforced its reputation as Yemen’s leading university. He emphasized that this success is built upon the university’s robust programs, expertise, and community-focused services.
He underscored the importance of fostering a sense of national duty and teamwork among staff to pursue institutional excellence. Prof. Al-Bukhaiti emphasized the need for high-quality administrative services throughout the university’s faculties and centers to ensure a high-quality educational environment, highlighting the essential role of well-equipped classrooms and comprehensive support for teaching and research.
He further stressed that responsibility and diligence must guide all administrative functions, describing strong administration as a fundamental pillar of university success. This is achieved through regular performance assessments, facility maintenance, landscaping, cleanliness, and energy services.
He stated, “We will not overlook negligence or underperformance. The University is a dynamic institution— a house of expertise and traditions that serves and educates society. Every individual must uphold integrity and a deep sense of responsibility.”
He further explained, “The determination and sacrifice shown by frontline fighters strengthen our resolve and inspire us to bring the same dedication to our duties at this distinguished institution, which many aspire to be part of.”
Highlighting recent improvements in the financial well-being of the university staff, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti called for sustained efforts to optimize resource management and carefully assess expenditures to ensure they directly support the university’s development, modernization, and delivery of high-quality education.
He outlined key post-obligation priorities, including enhancing health insurance and safeguarding the rights of academic and administrative staff, particularly the payment of teaching hours for faculty members. He also stressed the importance of investing in areas that directly improve operational performance, such as laboratories, workshops, maintenance, educational materials and equipment, administrative staff entitlements, and infrastructure development.
During the meeting, the University Rector listened to concerns and aspirations raised by administrative leaders, which largely focused on transitioning toward modern administrative systems through digital automation, improving workforce training, addressing landscaping and continuous maintenance needs (especially for older faculties), resolving employee housing issues, optimizing staff redistribution for underutilized employees, and advancing matters related to health insurance, salary adjustments, and annual bonuses.
