Joint Meeting Explores Collaboration Between Sana’a University and the Ministry of Youth & Sports

A joint meeting was held today at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Sana’a to discuss avenues of cooperation between Sana’a University and the ministry. The meeting brought together Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Sana’a University Rector, Dr. Mohammed Ali Al-Mawllad, Minister of Youth & Sports, and the Vice Minister, Mr. Nabih Abu Shawssa.
Discussions during the meeting, which was also attended by Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, the Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs; Mr. Eskandar Al-Maqaleh, the University’s Secretary-General; Dr. Abdul Ghani Mutaher, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education; Mr. Abdul Qader Al-Gharbani, Director-General of Student Activities and Youth Welfare; Mr. Mohammed Al-Kabari, Head of the Technical Office at the Ministry of Youth; and Assistant Undersecretary Dr. Jaber Al-Bawab, centered on the current state and needs of sports and youth activities at the university. Key priorities highlighted in the meeting included completing the indoor gymnasium project and the turfing of the football field.
During the meeting, the University Rector reviewed the university’s prominent sports activities and championships, as well as the main challenges hindering the development of sports activities, particularly those related to infrastructure, such as sports halls, fields, and essential equipment.
For his part, the Minister of Youth and Sports affirmed that Sana’a University represents the largest intellectual and cultural think-tank in the country. He emphasized the importance of expanding the scope of youth and sports activities within the university and other national universities. The Minister also pointed to the necessity of strengthening collaboration between the ministry and the university in cultural, creative, training, and capacity-building programs. Besides, he underscored the need to raise awareness and protect youth from ideological and media-based targeting.
Minister Al-Mawllad affirmed the importance of completing the indoor gymnasium project, assuring that it would be a priority for the ministry when resources become available.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti reaffirmed the university’s commitment to integrated collaboration with national institutions—particularly the Ministry of Youth and Sports—in service of university athletics, the broader youth sector, and the general welfare of Yemen. He stressed that completing the university’s sports infrastructure is essential for energizing youth engagement and fostering creativity and excellence. He further explained that more than 60% of the indoor gymnasium project has already been completed and that once finished, along with the turfing of the football field, it will benefit over 100,000 students and significantly contribute to meeting international university ranking standards.
The meeting was attended by many officials and staff from both the ministry and Sana’a University.
