Sana’a University Rector Meets with IT and Website Officials, Pushing for Digital Transformation

Sana’a – Saturday, May 24, 2025/27 Dhu al-Qi’dah 1446 AH
Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Sana’a University Rector, affirmed that comprehensive digital transformation has become an urgent necessity to keep pace with global developments in higher education. He emphasized that information systems and official websites are the cornerstone of this transformation, given their direct impact on the quality of services provided to students, faculty members, and administrative staff.
The announcement came during an expanded meeting held at the university presidency, attended by Prof. Mohammed Shukri, Vice Rector for Student Affairs; Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, the Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs; Mr. Mohammed Shams El-Din, Director General of Information Systems; and several officials from relevant departments.
Speaking about the importance of information systems, the University Rector explained that the development of internal technical systems has contributed to improving administrative efficiency and accelerating the completion of student-related applications. This includes registration, result retrieval, academic file tracking, and, finally, the issuance of university degree certificates.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti stressed that work in the field of information systems demands the highest degree of discipline and accuracy due to the sensitive data related to students’ academic futures. He also highlighted the crucial need to secure these systems from any breaches and ensure the privacy and integrity of electronically stored information.
The University Rector noted that the university is in the process of implementing an electronic clearance program for graduating students. This will allow for the authentication of procedures by relevant authorities without the need for paper review, saving time and effort and reducing administrative bottlenecks. He called for all authentications to be documented electronically within a specific timeframe, granting permissions according to precise controls, and establishing clear oversight mechanisms to ensure transparency and the integrity of procedures, thereby enhancing trust among users of these systems.
Moreover, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti affirmed that the official websites of the university, its faculties, and centers have become the interface reflecting the level of academic and administrative performance. They serve as the official source of information and data relevant to students, faculty members, researchers, and the wider community.
He pointed out that the function of university websites extends beyond simply publishing news; they have evolved into interactive platforms for disseminating study plans, academic announcements, research activities, and events. This also includes enhancing the university’s international presence by providing content in multiple languages, primarily English.
He stressed the importance of improving the quality of online content, ensuring its continuous update, strict adherence to the academic calendar in publishing schedules and announcements, and unifying the university’s visual and media identity across all university websites and associated pages.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti commended the efforts of the media teams and technical departments working on the websites, calling for greater coordination with the Information Systems Department to achieve institutional integration and present an honorable image befitting Sana’a University and its rich history.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the University Rector issued the following directives:
• The General Directorate of Information Systems is tasked with preparing a mechanism for monitoring operations within the SAR electronic system within one week, to be presented to the University Council at its next session.
• A draft official circular is to be prepared for deans of faculties and directors of centers, emphasizing full commitment to the academic calendar and updating websites accordingly.
This strategic direction is part of an ambitious plan led by the university administration to enhance the overall digital infrastructure and elevate Sana’a University’s ranking locally, regionally, and internationally. This will contribute to building a smart educational and administrative environment based on efficiency, transparency, and excellence.
