Prime Minister Inaugurates the 5th Scientific Conference of the Yemeni Otolaryngologists Society at Sana’a University
Sana’a – Wednesday, May 28, 2025 – 1st Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH
His Excellency, Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahawi, officially inaugurated the 5th Scientific Conference of the Yemeni Otolaryngologists Society (YOS), and the first conference of the Otolaryngology Department at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sana’a University.
In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister described the conference as a significant scientific event that reflects the ongoing academic and research dynamism witnessed across Yemeni universities. He emphasized that this momentum reaffirms the status of Sana’a as a city of revolution, unity, and steadfastness for all Yemenis.
He praised the leadership of Sana’a University, the Faculty of Medicine, the Yemeni Otolaryngologists Society (YOS), and participants in the conference, which included physicians, academics, and researchers from Yemen and abroad. The Prime Minister also highlighted the symbolic significance of the event coinciding with the 35th anniversary of Yemeni Unity (May 22), celebrated recently by the Yemeni people—excluding a small faction attempting to fragment the nation and revert it to a dark past marked by division and conflict.
He criticized the international community’s “double standards” and their contradictory stance, supporting unity in some countries while turning a blind eye to attempts at division and secession in Yemen. He affirmed that such efforts would ultimately fail.
He concluded by expressing hope that the conference would result in meaningful scientific outcomes that support the resilience of the Yemeni people and help improve local medical services—lessening their reliance on travel abroad for treatment.
For his part, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Sana’a University Rector, underscored the university’s distinguished academic legacy and its role as the leading institution of higher education in Yemen. He praised the Faculty of Medicine’s advanced infrastructure, scientific resources, and highly qualified staff, which enable it to organize specialized medical conferences of this caliber.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti highlighted the faculty’s growing reputation as a model academic institution with integrated educational, laboratory, and clinical facilities, serving as a cornerstone for the advancement of medical education and research in Yemen.
He further stressed the importance of hosting scientific events and conferences as platforms for academic exchange and professional development. Such initiatives, he noted, reflect the university’s strategic vision for enhancing higher education and aligning with global academic standards.
The opening session also featured remarks from Dr. Ali Shaiban, Minister of Health and Environment; Dr. Hatem Al-Dois, Vice Minister of Education and Scientific Research; and Dr. Mohammed Al-Mahbashi, the Chairman of YOS. All speakers emphasized the vital role of the conference in advancing the ENT specialty and praised the efforts of all contributors and participants from within Yemen and abroad.
The two-day conference will feature a series of research papers and presentations addressing various ENT diseases and showcasing the latest developments in the field. The sessions aim to enrich professional knowledge and promote best practices among specialists.
The opening was attended by Dr. Mohammed Al-Shahari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Brig. Dr. Abbas Najmuddin, Director General of the Military Hospital in Sana’a; Dr. Mohammed Muzaiqer, Deputy Director; and a number of officials from the Ministry of Education & Scientific Research and the Ministry of Health & Environment, Sana’a University, and other relevant institutions.
