Government Bodies Affirm Support for Rehabilitating Student Hostels at Sana’a University

As part of the Government of Change and Construction’s support for Sana’a University, its commitment to providing a suitable and stimulating educational environment, and in implementation of the outcomes of the previous meeting regarding the rehabilitation, maintenance, and improvement of student hostels, an expanded meeting was held today at the university’s headquarters. The meeting was chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Allamah Mohammed Mohammed Meftah, with the participation of several ministers, to follow up on the implementation of procedures related to the rehabilitation, maintenance, and improvement of student hostels for both male and female students.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammed Al-Madani, Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Development and Minister of Local Administration; Mr. Hasan Abdullah Al-Saadi, Minister of Education & Scientific Research; Dr. Mohammed Al-Mawallad, Minister of Youth & Sports; Mr. Sameer Mohammed Bajaalah, Minister of Social Affairs & Labor; Dr. Abdullah Al-Amir, Minister of Petroleum & Minerals; Mr. Mohammed Al-Mahdi, Minister of Telecommunications & Information Technology; and Dr. Hamoud Obad, the Mayor of the Capital Secretariat, alongside the Rector of Sana’a University, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti.
The meeting was dedicated to discussing the status of student housing. The First Deputy Prime Minister affirmed the government’s support for the university’s efforts to provide suitable services for students, stressing that attention to service facilities, including student housing, is an integral part of supporting the educational process.
The Minister of Education & Scientific Research also indicated that improving the student housing environment is a necessity aimed at enabling students to continue their education in stable and safe conditions.
For his part, the University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, expressed his gratitude for the government’s support, confirming that the preparations underway for the renovation, rehabilitation, and improvement of student housing reflect a collective commitment to providing a stimulating educational environment. He explained that the renovation of the female students’ hostel will be postponed until after the end of the academic year due to the start of university classes, while confirming that a package of maintenance and improvements for the female students’ hostel will begin soon. This includes the gas company conducting comprehensive maintenance of the gas network and system, including the addition of new tanks, as well as the Public Electricity Corporation maintaining the electrical grid. A solar power system will also be installed, and an activity hall and a computer lab will be equipped in the female students’ hostel.
The Minister of Social Affairs & Labor pledged to provide the necessary furniture, while the Minister of Local Administration & Development and the Mayor of the Capital Secretariat committed to contributing to the financing of a comprehensive renovation and maintenance project for the male students’ hostel, according to the study and bills of quantities submitted by the university’s engineers.
The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary for the Housing Sector at the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, Mr. Qasim Atif; the General Director of Projects at the university, Eng. Abdulhakim Shamsan; the General Director of University Student Housing, Mr. Bashir Thawaba; and a number of officials from the university and government bodies.
This meeting comes as part of the government’s constant efforts to enhance the role of Sana’a University as a leading national educational institution that embraces students from all of Yemen’s governorates.
