University Council Welcomes New Academic Year 1447 H and Approves Key Academic and Development Projects

Sana’a University Council held its 1st regular meeting for the academic year 1447 H (2025-2026) today, chaired by Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, University Rector, with the attendance of vice rectors, assistants, and deans of the faculties.
At the outset of the meeting, the Council extended congratulations to all members of the university community—faculty members, students, and staff—on the start of the new academic year, wishing them a year filled with success and academic excellence.
During the session, the University Rector reviewed key service and development achievements accomplished over the past month. He highlighted the near completion of paving works on the university’s main road and side entrances, expected to be finalized within 45 days, and the ongoing initiative to plant 5,000 fruit-bearing trees across the campus, as well as the maintenance of the underground irrigation network, all within the broader framework of the university’s green transformation and environmental enhancement plans.
The Council also approved the launch of a documentary and promotional film production project to show the university’s faculties and facilities, to be implemented by the Faculty of Mass Communication. Moreover, it approved the installation of electronic advertising and information screens at the university’s main gates to publicize programs, activities, and events.
In a significant step for the medical field, the Board sanctioned the localization of training for conchoidal bone ear surgery in Yemen and approved the ear surgery lab manual. They also approved the first specialized training course on conchoidal bone ear dissection, marking a significant scientific milestone in the training of medical professionals in Yemen.
Furthermore, the Council approved allowing university students interested in enhancing their technical skills to enroll in the Computer Center during their studies. It also approved granting graduates of other universities the opportunity to complete their internship requirements under the supervision of the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences and the Faculty of Dentistry at Sana’a University.
The meeting further heard a report from the committee tasked with evaluating the performance of the Scientific Research Integrity Committee, Language Proofreading Committee, and Seminar Committee, with a view to enhancing the quality of submitted MA and PhD theses. The Council decided to keep the Scientific Research Integrity Committee and approved its proposed operational mechanism. It also affirmed the continuation of the Seminar Committee in accordance with the postgraduate system, while emphasizing that the responsibility for language review and proofreading rests with the researcher and academic supervisor.
As part of efforts to enrich academic content, the Council approved forming a committee to study the feasibility of publishing university textbooks, contingent on the approval of academic departments, thorough technical and language reviews, and under the direct supervision of the University Rector.
At the end of the session, the Council granted doctoral degrees to 16 researchers and master’s degrees to 34 graduate students across various disciplines. It also approved the graduation lists for students from the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, the Faculty of Sharia & Law, the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Agriculture, Food & Environment.
The Council discussed a range of additional academic, postgraduate, and student affairs issues, making the necessary decisions and ratifying the minutes of its previous session.
