University President Chairs Meeting of Cardiac Center Board at Kuwait University Hospital, Pledges Full Support for Development

Sana’a University today hosted the regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Cardiac Center at Kuwait University Hospital. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of the University and Chairman of the Center’s Board.
The session focused on exploring ways to enhance the center’s medical and research services. In attendance were Dr. Abdulhafidh Thawaba, the Rector’s Assistant for Medical Faculties; Prof. Zaid Al-Warith, the Rector’s Assistant for Scientific Centers; and Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs.
At the start of the meeting, the University Rector praised the dedication of the center’s staff and their outstanding humanitarian service, affirming the university’s unwavering commitment to supporting the center with the necessary medical equipment and supplies to continue its noble mission.
“This center is a bright beacon in Yemen’s medical landscape and a significant addition to the healthcare sector. We will support it with full sincerity and dedication,” Prof. Al-Bukhaiti said. He underscored the need for a clear financial and administrative mechanism to organize the center’s work, urging staff to handle all incoming cases with the highest sense of responsibility and teamwork, as this is a fundamental measure of success.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti also called for the swift preparation of a transparent financial report that reflects the scale of the efforts underway, emphasizing the priority of providing essential supplies to maintain high-quality medical services.
During the meeting, the Center’s Director, Dr. Salah Al-Shawki, presented the outcomes of his recent visits to several European cardiac centers, noting an agreement that would enable the center at Kuwait University Hospital to participate in joint scientific studies and publish its research in specialized European journals.
Dr. Al-Shawki expressed gratitude for the University Rector’s support of various initiatives of the center, including the operation of the cardiac catheterization unit, the opening of the dialysis unit, the “Life Stent” project, and the alternative energy project. He highlighted that the center now offers 100 beds, a remarkable growth from just four beds previously.
The Board approved the formation of a committee to assess the solar and electrical systems at the center and submit a detailed report to the University Presidency for prompt resolution of any technical issues. It also established a committee to review the mechanisms for admitting patients and setting service fees, with attention to humanitarian considerations and directives from senior leadership to deliver high-quality care to those in need. This committee is expected to complete its work within two weeks.
The meeting also discussed ways to formalize cooperation between the center and relevant entities, such as the Zakat Authority and other organizations supporting the families of martyrs and the wounded. A committee was tasked with developing effective communication frameworks to strengthen support for eligible patients.
Moreover, the Board approved the drafting of a joint cooperation agreement with the Zakat Authority to assist underprivileged patients, under the direct oversight of the authority to ensure transparency and fairness in service delivery.
The Board also expressed appreciation for the support of the Capital Municipality and its leadership, which funded the purchase of an ECG machine and Computed Tomography (CT) or Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT), demonstrating an institutional commitment to advancing medical centers and improving their services.
Furthermore, the meeting decided to expedite the submission of staffing needs to the University Presidency to complete hiring procedures in line with applicable laws and regulations. It also approved the framework documents for the Echo Diploma and Cardiac Nursing Diploma programs, paving the way for the finalization of their academic endorsement.
The Board discussed preparations for organizing a scientific day on cardiac and catheterization diseases and a medical exhibition this August at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. It also explored the possibility of holding a broader scientific conference in the near future.
In addition, the meeting highlighted the urgency of launching a dedicated webpage for the center within the university’s main website within one week.
