Sana’a University Receives Prosthetics and Orthotics Building from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)

Sana’a University officially received a new Prosthetics and Orthotics building today, constructed with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This project is part of a joint collaboration aimed at strengthening medical and technical education in Yemen.
The formal handover ceremony was attended by Mr. Ismail Al-Mutawakel, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Christine Cipolla, representative of the ICRC, and several university officials.
The building was officially received by Prof. Khaled Al-Khamisi, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Applied Sciences, who expressed his appreciation for the ICRC’s support. Dr. Al-Khamisi described the facility as a significant milestone in advancing rehabilitation and training programs in the field of prosthetics, and strengthening the faculty’s capacity to deliver specialized educational and rehabilitative services to persons with disabilities.
The Dean also highlighted that the Prosthetics and Orthotics program has received international accreditation from the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO). He affirmed that this accreditation reinforces the Faculty’s commitment to global quality standards and reflects the university’s vision for developing its programs and community services.
Ms. Cipolla, the ICRC’s representative in Yemen, expressed her satisfaction with the completion of the project and commended the level of institutional cooperation with Sana’a University. She described the project as an effective model of synergy between academic and humanitarian work.
In preparation for its official opening and receiving students and beneficiaries of its academic and rehabilitative services, the building is scheduled to be furnished and equipped in the coming weeks.
The building handed over today comprises two lecture halls, reception rooms, restrooms, and a training hall. It will serve both students and citizens in need of prosthetic and orthotic services.
