SANA’A: Tuesday, July 29, 2025 (4 Safar 1447 AH)
Sana’a University Council held its 2nd regular meeting for the academic year 1447 AH. The meeting was chaired by University Rector Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti and attended by vice rectors, Rector’s assistants, and deans of faculties.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti opened the session by highlighting the university’s significant achievements over the past month. Most notably, Sana’a University made a substantial leap in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, published by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). The university climbed to the 2056th position globally, a remarkable jump from its previous rank of 3540th in February 2025. Moreover, Sana’a University secured the 191st spot among Arab universities, the 1758th in Asia, and maintained its leading position domestically among Yemeni public and private universities.
The Rector also discussed the efforts of various committees, including the Committee for Evaluating Scientific and Research Centers and the Committee for Reviewing Admission Applications for Postgraduate Programs. He also highlighted recent service initiatives, such as improving campus lighting, extensive tree planting with fruit-bearing trees, and implementing rainwater harvesting projects to secure irrigation water for the coming months.
The Council approved several crucial decisions, most notably:
1. Imposing legal action against faculty members who publish research in international scientific journals without acknowledging their affiliation with Sana’a University. These faculty members will be barred from receiving the following privileges, as stipulated by the Yemeni Universities Law, its Executive Regulations, and the University Council decisions:

o Internal or external scholarship grants.
o Access to university housing.
o Allocation of land.
o Appointment to any administrative positions (Head of Department, Vice Dean, Faculty Dean).
o Attendance at departmental and faculty council meetings.
o Promotions and permanent appointments within Sana’a University.
o Scientific research incentives.
