PhD Degree Awarded to Mr. Mohammad Ahmed Kudaish in Islamic Studies

Mr. Mohammad Ahmed Mohammad Taher Kudaish was awarded a PhD degree with a grade of (Excellent) for his dissertation titled “The Efforts of Yemeni Scholars in Quranic Sciences: An Analytical Study,” which was submitted to Department of Islamic Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities – Sana’a University. The PhD dissertation defense was held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, corresponding to 5 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1447 Hijri.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following members:

The dissertation reached several key conclusions, most notably:
- Yemeni scholars have kept pace with other scholars in seeking, teaching, and documenting knowledge and authorship. As a result, they have produced scholarly work in Quranic sciences that is well-known.
- The number of Yemeni scholars who authored works in Quranic sciences reached more than 244, with their works exceeding 400 titles.
- The most frequently covered topics in Quranic sciences were the virtues of the Quran, interpretation (Tafsir), and recitations (Qira’at).
The dissertation also offered several recommendations, including:
- The need to intensify efforts to verify manuscripts of Quranic sciences and search for missing ones.
- The recommendation to conduct similar studies that clarify the efforts and role of Yemeni scholars in specific subjects or during a short period, and to study their methods of authorship in the topics of Quranic sciences.
This research has a beautiful and profound impact by documenting the efforts of Yemeni scholars and acknowledging their merit and status throughout the ages, and it encourages researchers to connect with their scholars.
The PhD dissertation was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The PhD defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, interested students, the candidate’s colleagues, and family members.
