Faculty of Medicine Launches Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Chess Championships

Sana’a – September 9, 2025 (Rabi’ Al-Awwal 17, 1447 Hijri)
Under the patronage of the Rector of Sana’a University, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, and the supervision of the Office of the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the University Student Forum (USF), the Faculty of Medicine at Sana’a University today launched the Faculty Championships in football, volleyball, table tennis, and chess. The tournaments are organized by the University’s General Administration of Student Activities and Youth Welfare.
During the inauguration, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, stressed the importance of student activities and sports competitions in their various forms, noting their vital role in boosting students’ morale.
He called on students to actively participate, foster a spirit of competition and creativity, and aim for the championship trophy at the conclusion of the qualifiers.
For his part, the Assistant Director General of Student Activities and Youth Welfare, Mr. Mohammed Al-Radaei, confirmed that the four championships will be held from September 9th -14th. He noted that the tournament draws were conducted yesterday, with ten teams competing in the football championship, five teams in volleyball, both following a knockout system, while participation in the chess and table tennis tournaments remains open.
The inauguration session was attended by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Hospital Affairs, Prof. Anwar Al-Mughalles, and the Deputy Head of the University Student Forum, Mr. Sakhr Amin Al-Humaidi.
The Faculty of Medicine’s championships are part of a series of competitions that will be held at the faculty level in the first phase and then at the central university level in the second phase. This is within the framework of the university’s plan to expand, focus on, and activate youth and sports activities.
