Mr. Abdulsalam Mansour Ahmed was awarded a PhD degree in Computing and Information Science with distinction for his dissertation titled: A Novel Model for Optimizing Energy Efficiency and Enhancing Connectivity in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), which was submitted to the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Computer and Information Technology – Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:
| # | Committee Members | Designation | Position |
| 1 | Prof. Sharaf Abdulhaq Mahyoub Al-Hamdi | Internal Examiner | Chair |
| 2 | Prof. Malek Nasser Ali Al-Jabri | Main Supervisor | Member |
| 3 | Assoc. Prof. Maher Ali Abdullah Al-Sanabani | External Examiner | Member |
The study aimed to propose an innovative model to improve energy efficiency and extend the operational lifetime of MANETs.
The study yielded several key findings, including:
- 48% improvement in network lifetime compared to AODV and 26% improvement compared to EEAODV.
- Significant reduction in packet loss rate.
- Lower end-to-end delay across the network.
- More balanced energy consumption across nodes.
The researcher concluded his dissertation with several key recommendations, including:
- Integrating intelligent energy management mechanisms into MANET routing protocols.
- Developing hybrid models leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance route selection efficiency and proactively replace critical nodes before failure.
- Conducting further applied studies to test the proposed model in real-world environments, such as relief networks, to ensure greater reliability and extended network lifetimes under practical conditions.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
